MY INSTALLATION GUIDE:

1) To get started, unzip the FOnline.zip to your choice of location.

2) If you don't already have a RAR extractor, install extractnow.exe (included), and extract master.dat and critter.dat to main FOnline folder directory. I wronguflly put the zip folder instead of the two individual dat files into the main directory. A big thanks to Torian for helping me with this!

3) If you want to hear the original Fallout 2 soundtrack, copy & paste the music folder (from your Fallout2 disc) to FOnline/Data/Sound.

4) Now open your FOline folder and click on FOConfig.exe. Unless you can read Russian, in the OTHER TAB set your language to English.

On the VIDEO TAB, choose 1024x768 and check Fullscreen option.

*** For the English Game Server, on the NET TAB put HOST: 94.103.87.42 PORT: 2238, click on SAVE, and then PLAY!

5) Now that you're in the game on the start page, click on the REGISTRATION Tab. Here you will create your character choosing stats & skills. The MOST IMPORTANT part is choosing a NAME and PASSWORD (jot these down on paper). When you complete your character and return to the start page, ENTER your NAME and PASSWORD into the box in the upper right-hand corner. If someone has already taken your name of choice, you will have to reroll your character from scratch.

6) Now comes the hard part (j/k), learning how to play this Massively Difficult Online RPG! Actually, if you've played Fallout2, you know what to expect (but now the wastelands are populated by other human players who are potential allies, thieves, or player killers).

My intial reactions to Fallout Online:

Wow, as a veteran of Ultima/Anarchy Online, Asheron's Call, Everquest, Star Wars Galaxies, Dark Age of Camelot, Guild Wars, City of Heroes, and World of Warcraft, I have to say this is the toughest MMORPG I have ever played! Last week, I hit the ground running as a vampire in Dark Eden (a free DIABLO-like MMORPG) and within two days went from level 1 to 50 (only teaming for 1 hour).

After about 8 hours of Fallout Online, as an unarmed fighter (with sneak & doctor), I gained *1* whole level shoveling mutant cow dung for a farmer in The Hub and spent the rest of my time dying at the hands of Player Killers and NPC children and cattle. Seriously, I could kill NOTHING. I certainly don't remember Fallout 1 & 2 being this hard. I'm not whining; I'm just a little stunned by the high learning curve, clunky interface, and unforgiving game system.

If anyone has some tips on what/where to fight, where to get some knucles, and how to make better money (than shoveling dung), please post it here. Lastly, if you run into a female player named "Iron Maiden" in Fallout Online be especially nice to her... er him... uh me

To connect to the English and not Russian server, replace the ip with: 94.103.87.42 : 2238

Also protip: Unarmed and some charisma is amazingly useful when you first start out.

Also major protip: Run the **** away from any Russians, they're already power armored up the arse, a bunch of english speaking people are preparing to zerg rush Vault 13 and hope to take it over.

Fallen Earth and Fallout 2 Online are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. xD

FOnline caters to pvpers that enjoy looting the bodies they kill and making the other players rage because they have to wait in that dead state for 5 minutes.

Fallen Earth isnt.

I HATED Fallen Earth.

I think the idea of Fallout multiplayer is blasphemous and nothing short of insane, but I think I must give it a try. My expectation is that it is just a horrible, co-op fallout with no items, story, or fun.

I really REALLY hope I am wrong.

. I wanna join the mob. Though it'll be awhile before I'm adequately equipped and prepared to do anything serious.
