I currently only have 2GB memory in my computer. Is it worth it to upgrade to 4GB, which seems to be the standard nowadays? How much of an improvement in performance will I notice?

In gaming performance, there is no real difference, unless you have lower than 20FPS in the game you play.
In daily things like web browsing, there is also no difference unless you multitask with more than 4 items on your taskbar.
It will help during defragging and virus scanning, things of that sort.
