Default Do I have a virus?

Yesterday, i was on ultimate guitar for guitar tabs. I have used it before, and so has my friends. While i was looking, the internet browser closed and went to a website called VirusDoctor. It was "scanning" my computer and said i had 11 malware infections. I clicked No and i did not install it, due to the fact that it's a scam (says youtube) that plants an infection. I scanned after with AVG free 8.5, and i got no infections whatsoever, but i am curious if i do.

Look here for long story-short: I think i have a virus because a random pop up called virus doctor came out.

probably yes, atleast if you are sure you didnt click any adds it might be a virus/spyware causing that stuff to pop up. you might want to try scan with Adaware.

but it could also be a bad site that causes that to pop up. but if u never got it before by going to that site it sounds fishy

Adaware? is it free? and where is the safest download.

P.S. i am pretty sure i didn't click an ad, but where can it possibly come from? the last thing i downloaded was Trickster online, but that was back in the beginning of summer.

http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

You don't even need to "download" virusses, you could get them from cds, dvds, thumbdrives...
There is also something called driveby downloading. You visit a site and you get ad/malware/virusses installed without your knowledge.

I doubt it. A lot of websites allow advertisers to redirect users, as long as you didn't install anything, you're fine.

Oh, and moved to Tech Corner.

well if its a virus popups like these should frequently happening even when ur doing nothing. another reason could be a bad site, the moment u click on a link it causes your explorer to close and all this shit/scan stuff to popup which mostly immediatly infect your pc with spyware.

http://www.lavasoft.com is the site where u can get adaware for free

I know i didnt get it from cds, dvds, or thumbdrives( i don't know what that is), because i hardy do anything on this computer. I just play mmos, look for tabs, go here and youtube, and thats it.

How would i know though? I have been to the same websites numerous times, and won't that "driveby" thing be visible in the Control Panel? I.E: Control Panel->Programs->Uninstall a Program?
Thanks for moving it, and it happened once only, but im curious. Because im scared Shi*less when it comes to computers and computer hardware, because i don't really know much about it

If you've got an up to date windows and virus checker, you'll be fine.

There might be a chance of something getting you, but as is said above, just run a scan with Adaware and you'll know for sure.

Just make sure you dl it from the right place :P

Thumbdrive= USB drive, USB stick etc.

As for the driveby download, no you wouldn't know it. One day the site can be safe, the next day it can be filled with virusses.

A virus would never show itself in the control panel, if it did, your virusscanner would have detected it ages ago.
