Question Can anyone help me out? skype forums doesn't seem to be helpful at all

How does one set the microphone option in Skype to their headset if the headset isn't listed in the drop down menu? The only options I see in the drop down menu are my sound card and the audio capture filter from my graphics card. I'm asking this because ever since I got my new sound card my friend can hear himself and whatever game I'm playing.

Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (build 2600)
ASUS EN9600GSO PCI-Express x16 2.0 512mb

Which model number is the sound card?

Also, remove the card and use the onboard to check if it isn't your headset that isn't working like it should.

If anyone would like me to build a rig, I'd prefer it to be in a thread in the tech section rather than PM. Thank you.

Right click your volume control button next to your clock
->choose recording devices
->set your mic to you default recording device
->skype should automatically use that

My headset w/ mic isn't in the list to use as default device and I have no idea why.

I checked it on the motherboard sound, i could hear clearly through there, but that's not the problem.
Also every now and then what i hear is like that of a broken computer voice when I'm voice chatting with whoever.
