Celtic anime? Just watch anime if you have to wonder if Mabinogi has anime references.

The point of this topic continues to elude me.

There are no anime references in the mabi story line.

There are some inferences of Japan such as the Masamune sword and the Muramasa sword but that's not related to anime at all. Just.. Japanese swordsmiths.

Indeed, just because it looks like its based off anime doesn't mean it is, once you play the game you'll understand.

I'll have to agree with the majority and say it doesn't have anime references. While it may have an anime artstyle and some of the characters may seem a bit like anime cliches, it doesn't have any of the quirky clothing/characters/gimmicks that are generally associated with anime nor does it have any references to pop culture (like how Dragonica had people runnign around in Naruto costumes).

Basically, Mabinogi takes itself seriously enough and never has anything overly weird so it's far closer to more realistic 3D games than the typical overly-cute anime-style games.

PS. Those who say animes suck; go watch bad movies, and you will say the same. All depends on storylines, character designs char development, twist of plots, quality, arts, yadyadayadayadayad blah blah blah. You just make yourself an idiot saying all animes are bad.

1. They play it on saturday nights? I didn't know that, I was too busy out with my friends, but I guess you'd know since you were at home. Nothing is wrong with anime, its not my things but I appreciate the artwork.
2. I know plenty of people who play without going in the cash-shop and have tons of fun, but really nothing is free, and they need to make money somehow don't they?
3. I don't trust this from someone who plays runescape, and appears to have wasted a good part of their life doing so.

Like people said, only the graphics are anime-esque. There's really nothing else you can tie Mabinogi and Anime with.

Mabinogi is based off of and named after the Mabinogion. Which is a collection 11 Celtic mythology stories.

mabinogi do certain references to the mabinogion tales (The tales draw on pre-Christian Celtic mythology) , names and places (like math for example)
the style of characters are a bit anime styled , thats all
