Lightbulb THE action mmo idea

I'm new to this site so I apologize for posting in the wrong section in advance. This was my best guess.

What do you guys think of this idea for an action mmo?

I was wondering if anyone new of an action mmo that played like Devil May Cry but allowed you to gain equipment, weapons, armor, and abilities that allowed you to customize your character and play how you wanted to play instead of being stuck with 5 basic and unimaginative combos.

Any of the recent Castlevania games are perfect examples of how you can actively fight while acquired gear and abilities add to the fun by letting you perform new attacks or give you new powers.

If the combo system of Devil May Cry could be combined with the exploration and customization of Castlevania... I think that would be the best action mmo ever made. And, it would be extraordinarily easy to come up with more things to add to the game after you managed to finish combining those two games.

How awesome would it be to play a game where you actually FOUGHT a monster with a character that looks exactly the way you want and FIGHTS exactly the way you want with weapons, skills, and spells that YOU hand picked and mastered yourself?

For example, instead of relying on some bullshit "Dodge skill" to randomly dodge for you. YOU actually press the dodge button and if you timed it correctly...hey guess what? YOU dodged the attack. OR, oops you timed it wrong so you got hit...just like a REAL fight. No more, "I died because my character sucks too bad at dodging so I have to grind and craft until my character doesn't suck anymore." Now if you kick *** at fighting and your opponent (monster or other player) can't block your attacks or avoid them in some way...they lose.

Also, if you want to run on walls and be Neo...well in this game it would be a great idea to acquire skills that allow you to run on walls and otherwise mimic Neo's abilities in the movie. Or, if you want to swing a huge sword at blinding speeds with ferocious force like Dante...well then seek abilities that improve your attack speed and damage.

And, it is really easy to solve any lag issues associated with playing action mmos... Final Fantasy showed us the answer for years. You simply have a simplified world map for traveling with basic 3d/2d models/icons (whatever is practical really) that represent other players, cities, monsters, and other points of interest. Then when combat or other type of interaction is required you move close to that icon/model/whatever and the game loads an instance in the form of a room representing an appropriate battlefield for that area or a unique area if you are close enough to its landmark on the simplified map and you fight it out with that monster and a few other players. Thus very little lag exists because you only have a few people in that server that was just created and... the group leader's computer just became host of that server so there should be almost no lag at all.

I wish this game existed... it would probably be the best game ever made. I wish I had a ton of money and a degree in programming, game design, and every other skill you need to make a quality game so that I could make this game.

I have babbled on for way too long but I was bored and I really wish I could play a game like this...but no one has made anything close. I hope somebody steals my idea and makes this game.

Rofl.

Nope - I don't think so.

Wait for Dragon Nest.

Read this and find out why it will most likely not gonna happen anytime soon

And as for leader hosts the battle, don't think that will solve the lag either. There are tons of room-based MMO out there, and many of em get bad lag.

Yes many room based mmos get bad lag because they don't have a ping filter. If you REALLY want to join a server that you have 746 ping with in Counter-Strike (for example) you can... and you will mess up the game for everyone in there...thankfully servers auto kick people who lag too much. Unfortunately the mmos you are talking about don't have such a feature because they have too few players close enough to each other for that to be practical. (No one would get a chance to play unless they were close to many other people who played).

My idea is that while you are still exploring on the world map players will only be able to see other players that have acceptable ping with each other. So then when the player's "icons" meet and an instance/server opens they should have no problem with lag because their computers are no longer tracking the players on the entire map, only the ones in the instance/server that they are currently fighting in. Of course, like I mentioned in the previous paragraph...this would suck if this game didn't have many players close to each other because then no one would show up to fight in the first place. But, if it catches on then it will work just as well as counter-strike.

The alternative is to give up on the open world aspect altogether and do strictly room based servers (that actually kick if you lag too much). But, then that would be horribly punishing because then those who are in remote areas would simply create a server filled with monsters and no other players and be forced to basically play a single-player mmo.

And, no game-maker is going to risk that...which is why room based mmos suck so bad with the lag...because they would rather let some asshole lag up the server and keep everyone "playing" (with lag...but playing none-the-less) than consistently kick him/her...for being the only person in his/her area trying to play the game.

It really is a go big or go home kind of thing. I am thinking this hybrid room/open world will work the best. Maybe I'm missing something. But if I can play a game of Counter-Strike with 20 or so other players with next to no problems then I see no reason for a game that does the same thing accept you use swords, shields, and arrows/guns? to not work also. Of course the game would have to lack "just-frames" because that wouldn't even work in a sizable lan party. But I would be able to easily make peace with that if I actually got to hack and slash at other characters that are just as unique in fighting style/abilities as their appearance.

I mean don't you guys share a similar enthusiasm at the prospect of this kind of game existing? At least on the scale that I'm attempting to portray? Come on!?!? I mean even something as "stupid" as Devil May Cry Online would be a ridiculously fun game. Slash-Slash-Slash CLASH!!! BUTTON MASH TO RECOVER FIRST!!! OH t3h no3s he reversed my attack C-C-C-Combo breaker!!!! Lol okay...but you guys get the point right?

Well in that thread someone pointed out that PLanetside was pretty much real time mmorpg non-room based (although that was an fps rather than action). In any case, I'm hope that once our internet gets better we will start getting real-time mmos. I know in Asia some places have 100 megabit connections for cheap prices, but we are starting to slowly get there too, as now in the USA we recently have 25+ megabit connections.
