Yes, such a common problem that I can not find any help from Google as they are all different cases and the solutions don't help.
I'll turn my computer on and it will be working fine, then after several hours I came back to my computer and it was on the screensaver. I moved my mouse and the computer froze. I turned off the screensaver, updated both my graphic card and motherboard drivers, yet still while randomly browsing the internet it froze. Now, two main things to note: - No problems upon restarting other than the annoying hassle and having to re-open everything. - If I leave it frozen and move my mouse, it will eventually move after several minutes. No commands work though, as I can't access task manager or anything. No signs of a high CPU temperature, everything seems to be working fine. Nothing is overclocked or altered in anyways, running on default settings. Any suggestions on what to do? Edit: Also, not sure if it relates at all, but is it possible to have your CPU running at too low of a temperature? We're getting into the Winter temperatures in the Northeast and my CPU which commonly ran at around 27-30 Celsius is now running around 13-15 according to Rainmeter. Double Edit: Should have also mentioned I did scan with MalwareBytes and only found 1 file of problem which was removed and had no effect. Last edited by MrWafflez; 10-14-2009 at 09:33 PM. |

Your using a rain meter skin right? Try disabling it and see what happens.
Btw trying using everest ultimate edition for the CPU temperatures . It gives accurate readings of all ur gpu, cpu temps, computer specs etc. |

My first though was a virus from watching TV shows online off of TV-Links, but virus scans have turned up only one virus which was deleted, didn't help, and wasn't something that would freeze my computer anyways. My second thought is a problem with the CPU running too cold, but that doesn't make much sense to me. My third thought is to use a can of air to clean out the inside of my computer and hope for the best. Looking for insight from someone who can do more than make random guesses like mine though. |

Nope, nothing wrong with low temperatures.
I do suggest you open up your computer case and make sure everything is plugged in, also dust everything. It's hard to zero in on a problem like this, if you're willing to do so, I highly recommend running memtest. Does it crash quicker/more often when on a 3d game?

I've gotten the CPU temperature up ~5 degrees and I used CCleaner to fix registries and clear up about 2GB of temporary files. Hasn't frozen yet, but I'm afraid to go idle since that's when the problem happens most. The original problem was I would be playing Aion, minimize it, it would come back to a screensaver then to the user screen and my mouse wouldn't move from the bottom right corner. Then it started freezing but with no connection to Aion. Doubt they're related, but thought it might be worth mentioning. If it keeps freezing and no one knows I'll try a system restore to early September and see if that helps. |

A hard drive defrag is also worth trying. I think it's either
- Software - Motherboard - Ram - Hard Drive In no particular order. So if you leave your computer frozen, and shake the mouse, after serveral minutes the mouse will move? But then freeze again?

Still no problems after fixing the ton of registry errors CCleaner found, hopefully that was the problem. |

Hard drive. Remove your hard drive and see if anything is blackened. Or you can just take a picture and post it here.

very small chance of this happening, but if your PC is old some solder might have begun to weaken. at pc start up, when the insides are cool, the solder holds and your pc works flawlessly. as you continue to use it and it heats up the weak solder loosens and causes the problem. this happen to my pc last year, and its hard to fix coz the technician had to find which of the hundreds of parts had a loose solder.
