So i'm planning on upgrading my rig a bit, and need some advice on what I should go for first. According to DxDiag I has:
Display: 9800 GTX+ (512 M ![]() Sound: Realtek HD Audio Output Memory: 4 gigs (32 bit though so only 3.2 usable) Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core processor 3800+ OS: XP Power Supply: 500 watt or something i think Don't think I missed anything o_O. I'm thinking processor needs upgrading first, then maybe video card, but I might be wrong. Suggestions on what to get? (: Mostly looking to upgrade because WAR still runs slow for me, and that makes me very sad haha. Want to be able to record while playing. Last edited by Ithian; 10-16-2009 at 09:13 PM. |

I'd just get a whole new computer then.
Upgrading that, is not worth it anymore. Are there any specific requirements for the new build?

Why is it not worth it when buying a whole new computer is? You can just replace what's needed, not like paying 400$ for a new case, MB, OS and all that shit's worth it when i've already got it here and just don't have the most amazing(and overpriced) hardware on the market :\
I still get 40 FPS in WAR, I just want to be able to record footage better than 10-20 FPS. Don't need that much improvement, probably just processor and vid card |

With that budget (looking at 1000$) you can get an intel i5, ddr3 ram and a GPU that is tons better then your current one. Socket 939 died ages ago, so ebay will most likely be your only place to find a CPU on that socket.
You can reuse your case, OS, dvd and HDD, so we can cut that off the price too.

Well just because I can spend 1000 doesn't mean I want to ): As stated in OP, I'm looking to upgrade a bit. Not looking for an overhaul, or a massive system upgrade. Just a bit of improvement. Like.. "Hey you should go get a better processor, such as (insert processor that would be an upgrade here) and then later a better gpu such as (insert graphics card that would be an improvement here).

Your CPU socket is dead..
And I believe you have the best your socket offered..Also, for GPU, here's what you can get:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150443 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150442 Yes, they're out of stock for now, but they're just so dam powerful. The 5850 offers the GTX 285 for like 2/3 of the price. The 5870 is nearly as powerful as the GTX 295, which cost like $100-200 more. Edit: NVM, the CPU you have is not what the socket best had. I guess I was thinking of the 3200+, which was for single cores, I believe.

Best CPU on the 939 is the 4800+ I believe, which wouldn't be a big improvement and you run the risk of it not being able to fit on your motherboard as the 4800+ also has an AM2 variant.
