You raise a good point with that, but it's really only a tiny fraction of people you can apply that to in what we're discussing. How many people do you think actually raise their social status and look good with a branded PC? People don't buy expensive computers unless they have a need for high performance, or they're ignorant and payed for something they will never use efficiently. In the geek and tech community already, such branded PCs are frowned upon and amongst people who do not know anything, they wouldn't know any better either. Do you really think non-geeks will buy ridiculously expensive PCs and brag about them to their non-geek friends? Not unless they have too much money to burn, I highly doubt that.
