okay my computers getting old... very old.... so im trying to make a new one so do these parts go together?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-589-_-Product http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16819116001 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-433-_-Product http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231065 http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16817103937 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-003-_-Product I might use 4 gb memory instead of 2 and i might not use the gtx260 Also i heard the pentium D can OC 3.8 with the zalman cooler but at 4.0 ghz it starts to die so is there either a better processor+mobo that can run at 4.0 ghz using air cooling or a better fan than the zalman to run at 4.0ghz (i know some of these parts are pretty old themselves in some ways)

I recommend getting a better cpu, mobo, and power supply. Also, instead of a gtx 260, you can throw in a HD 5770, they perform almost the same, is much cheaper, quieter, uses less power (5770 is 108 max, where as 260 is like..150/160 something), and is future proof with dx 11. tho you can wait until the fermi or hemlock comes out for a price drop. also here is a good psu replacement http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817702010 Last edited by corasked; 10-24-2009 at 12:33 AM. |

To OP: I'm not sure what you're saying. From what I've understand, you have the Pentium D.

Your entire budget is $200 or just the CPU? Cause if it's just the CPU, here's one of the best overclockers under $200.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115036 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115056 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115037 I italic the one that's the best for overclocking. It's 1066mhz for the FSB instead of 1333, like the e8400. If you overclock the FSB from the stock 266 to 333, you'd get 3.33ghz, which is basically the e8600, but for less and 3mb cache lower.

Stock INTEL are generally the worst, and they always have been. They haven't made a new fan design since the P4? until recently for the i5s exclusively.. But I'd expect with the 2.93ghz one, you'd get around 3.2-3.4ghz with stock, but the temps will be higher than it should be for idle.
OR If you mean the 9500, I'd get a different one. Yes, Zalman is one of the biggest names, but they don't make the best. But I'm pretty sure it can go to 3.6-3.8ghz.

I don't see why you're so obsess with overclocking over 3.6ghz. After 3.4ghz, it's not worth the extra heat. It'll only give like 5FPS more, but if you get a quad and overclock to 3.2ghz, it'd give similar performance. The biggest mistake most people make is basing their performance at ghz only, they NEVER consider the architecture. The Pentium D was overtaken by the Athlon 64x2, then it was overtaken by the Core 2 line. Even if it's at 2ghz, it's still more powerful than the Pentium D, due to architecture and a unified L2 cache.
Edit: Here's a thread that supports my statement, where the 805 is obsolete, compared to the e8400(and 7500 too, since it's basically the same, but with 3mb of cache turned off) http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1293134

i just saw the price of it again thought it was alot higher before i guess i might go for the e7500 as long as i can use air cooling when i have overclocked it i wanted to run an overclock experiment to guess ill use my old processor for that
