i've encountered a virus, but it's only detected on my account, all other accounts are fine. cpu usage also goes up to 100% on only my account, it seems that it's svchost.exe being at 100%, i thought that may just have been a memory leak, but it seems that it's a virus causing that. ex_08.exe tries to run as well, but windows firewall seems to be stopping it from running, but other variations of that (09, etc) seem to be running in system processes.
i've scanned multiple times with avast, adaware, spybot, malwarebytes, trojanremover, but to no avail. ![]() hjt log: Quote:
i really don't want to reformat.. :/ edit: disconnecting the internet seems to resolve the cpu at 100% problem, but right when i reconnect the internet cpu usage goes back to 100%. only on my account. Last edited by woshiibreak; 10-25-2009 at 01:04 AM. |

I advice to go to www.geekstogo.com or a similar site, although you'd have to wait a bit with them being overrun the whole time with new threads and "oldest threads first" policy. They say what you need to use and how to and all that stuff.
If you can't wait, format is the only way to go. HJT is outdated and easily bypassed btw.

I am not really an expert at this, but you could try disabling system restore, then deleting the virus in safe mode.
Either that or try looking at other websites that specialize in the hijack this program. |

also, is the program super antispyware safe? sites claim that it can remove this virus. also if i disconnect my internet, cpu usage is fine. if i plug it back in again, cpu goes back to 100%. once again, only my account at the moment. Last edited by woshiibreak; 10-25-2009 at 01:10 AM. |

you could partition your disk to prevent the spread and then scan it using another os on the partitioned part or you could just remove the hard drive from your computer and use a usb converter to connect it to another computer and scan it from there but DON'T OPEN THE FILE JUST SCAN IT
if you don't understand ill start adding grammar

also there's not really a way to find out where they actually are, it spreads/corrupts other files everywhere. :| |

You could potentially partition your hard drive and install linux on your computer and scan it from there if an antivirus works on linux because of the fact that the virus is a windows os virus and wouldn't be able to run on linux
Or the solution i did after i couldn't scan/even start up my computer was: Take out your hard drive from your computer Attach it to a usb converter so it can be used as an external hard drive and then attach the external hard drive (your internal hard drive using the converter) to another computer and scan it from there but make sure you don't open/explore/do anything to the external hard drive when it is attached except scan it or the virus could spread (the virus could spread anyways so its a risk but this doesn't seem very serious DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK) BTW have you tried antivira? I used that and spybot You might also want to just quarantine the virus and not delete it because of the chance of it coming back. Some antiviruses doesn't fully delete a virus and it just reinstalls itself and blah blah blah O.o How are you on the internet shouldn't your computer be dead if its at 100%?

Are you using the latest version of Avast?
I check through many virus databases, and it seems like only avast can remove this virus.
