There's a risk of your BIOS being flashed too, which I highly suspect so... I'd search on google, but my internet is doing *****y right now. :/ This basically means if you don't flash your BIOS back or have a virusprotection on it, your HDD could get infected again and the story will repeat itself.

Unplug the HD, physically.
Disable caching and shadowing in BIOS. Set clear NVRAM to Enabled. Reboot. Wait till it hangs. Reboot. Set Boot order to ignore all but CD. Switch of. Replug the HD. Switch on. Insert CD. Reboot. There is a chance that you will be able to get into XP install than. [Some steps are optional in this, but doing it that way works best form me.] (Why all this? Your MBR is infected, but cached in the BIOS cache, for faster bootup. You won't be able to do anything before you clear it. That is why the error message tells you to clear all that, before installing. If you do not have the MBR of the HD in the cache, technically it shouldn't be possible for it to mess with your booting up.) @speculations of the Virus having flashed your BootRom: That would mean your Laptop is effectively bricked. You won't get it back to working conditions without the BootRom module being replaced (the Bios chip, physically, which is likely soldered on to the board). There are no Viruses out there that I know of, that do that. Last edited by Ronin; 10-27-2009 at 03:39 PM. |
