Okay, I got sick of the inactivity here, and I can't find the thread for the Make a Game contest that was supposed to be here ;-; so I figured I'd start a thread instead.
What do you think is the best game programming language (for non-online games) that is in existance today? Depending on the first 5 posts I'll make up a poll. Also, if one language gets enough votes, I'll learn that language and make my own game in it (see you in a few months on that topic >.>) which will be free for everyone here on Onrpg ^_^And seriously if someone could tell me if the Make a Game contest is still going on...or if anyone's won it yet please post here I've been adding new models to my pack for the past...say...3 months!!!Current Suggestions: PhP Python Java C C++

I like Python for game programming(Well, programming in general. I've only worked with one game, which miserably failed.) Panda3D is a really good engine for it, and some people have gotten up to 100fps on the engine. It's also very easy to learn. (Easier than Visual Basic in my opinion.)
For a 2D game, I would go with ika. Bacn won the ideas contest, and right now the game is a no-go. Only Bacn, Serix, Eriond, and I want to work on it. (I believe that's everyone, I may be missing some people. I'm also not sure if Eriond wants to work on it.) Last edited by Mime Taxidermy; 10-27-2009 at 11:37 PM. |

kk,
also, please suggest languages that can make fairly complex MMORPGs with minimal server strain (I know the techniques and tricks to cut down on server use and memory leaks but I want a language that can be complex and not strain the server inheritly). I'm hoping to use the experience I get programming a game or ten from scratch using these suggestions to program an MMORPG sometime in the future.

C/C++ is pretty robust and flexible for making... anything really along the lines of 3d or 2d, online, offline games. Network efficiancy, performance is based on how its coded. The vast majority of games, offline/online are coded this way, so you can't really go too wrong.
There is always python aswell, it could be used to make complex things, depends on how complex you'd want to go. And java as well another option. I'm no programmer, so its best to get a word in from someone who does know more about the languages, advantages and disadvantages, and what your looking to someday reach. |

As for your original topic, that's like asking "What is the best language for optimal communication?"

Anyway pHp is originally an internet server side language, I stated the truth and wasn't exactly specific in my main post to begin with :P Also if you're going to post here then leave a suggestion, if you want to tell me I've gone out of bounds you can do it in a pm without doing things that will probably start an argument with someone who disagrees with you (been on too many forums where the little things ruin threads where I actually need help...)
