So we know that Modern Warfare 2 will no dedicated servers. It is "PC turned to console". Okay, I've never really been THAT into FPS. Instead of dedicated servers it will now be matchmaking. So here's the question. Why are people so pissed about this? What does it really mean? Thanks! I'm skeptical as to whether I should wait for this game or buy Borderlands haha. A HUGE problem I had with CoD4 was that I could never get into the same game as my friend (on PC). There was so function to search for servers or join the same game as him. Maybe they added that over time, but I'm not sure. It sure as hell wasn't there for like the first 4 months after launch. Oh, and whoops wrong forum.

it means games will be run off the home internet connection of the host(the host will also have 0 ping and a gigantic advantage). there will be TONS of lag and the games will be very small to account for the shitty home internet connections of the host. it also destroys the community as you will end up playing with random people each time.
they also have COMPLETE control over the game. there will be no player created mods because of this. now infinity ward can charge you for mods instead of the community making them for free. they also added 10 extra bucks to make it the same as a console game. infinity ward just took pc gaming back 15 years. please sign here - http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_pe...d.cgi?dedis4mw Last edited by zeroburrito; 10-31-2009 at 07:46 PM. |

Oh dang. That's like DotA/WC3 mods. Didn't like that. Hmm. Well actually I was always the host, so I didn't care, but I can see how that would be a problem. Can't you pick the people you want to play with enter a match together? Still what's IW thinking?!

It also means that no games will have rules. For example, if you hated martyrdom, you could join a server that had "No Martyrdom" as a rule. Well, that is gone. As is tactical servers, which are the most fun I ever have on CoD. Tactical servers have tons of rules that make the game very realistic. That is gone. It makes me sad.

Does anybody have a doubt in their mind that this game won't succeed? It is of the CoD series after all. To be completely honest, this doesn't affect me all that much, but I don't want to be playing a game that nobody likes. Borderlands has an impressive spot on www.xfire.com atm, but I don't want to waste my money if I'm just going to buy that and spend all my time playing MW2.

i have to say not ALL games will lag. a very small portion of the game will have a good enough connection. if you find a good host, the game should run fine with a smaller amount of players. the problem is the vast majority will be crappy just like in huxley. that game has terrible "pvp" because of that. luckily huxley has battlefields where it is dedicated. best case scenario you server hop until the matchmaker finds a good server for you. worst case every game lags while half the games have the host leave mid game(or host team raping the other team consistently).
