Default Highest Burst Casting DPS?

I'm still a little bit confused as to what class to play.

I appreciate the responses to my previous thread, but I'm going to be more specific.

I was playing a warlock up to level 7 and was told that Warlocks are more of a DOT steady DPS class, by somebody, who recommended I play an Elementalist Shaman.

But I've read that there are a couple of contenders for this, Moonkins, Mages, Hunters.

Somebody on my server even recommended a Shadow Priest.

Any insight into these classes would be appreciated - I'm new and don't really know anything about this game.

I just want to be able to level fast and be somewhat viable/good in PVP lateron. (I don't mind learning a class and playing to its potential.)

ok if you want to be good in pvp/pve play a ret paladin fast leveler and high damage in both pvp and pve or a discipline priest for pvp or a mage that can rape almost any class in pvp as frost and high damage in raid as arcane

Ele shaman or mage.

I would probably go mage if you plan on pvping.

On the other hand if you go shaman you can melee dps, ranged dps, or heal if you feel like it.

TL;DR

Mage = PVP

Shaman = more versatile/fun to play in PVE

For Burst Casting DPS I'd say Mages but for me they've always been generally slow levelling as you have to stop for a lot of mana breaks.
If you dont have people to level with all the time i'd suggest taking up either a retribution paladin or a feral/balance druid as they're good for solo levelling and are self healers aswell.

Well burst and high dps is two different things. Some classes are very bursty but don't top dps. Some classes have high burst , but see a bunch of small numbers instead of a few huge numbers, and other classes see a few huge numbers, and a few small numbers. So you could be a little bit more specific on what your looking for.

Hunters aren't really a caster class, nor are they really high burst.
Warlocks Have affliction(doting), demo, and destruction(which is casting and will see big numbers.)
Mages are casters and also have pretty good burst.
Boomkin are casters but won't see the same numbers warlocks or mages will.
Ele shaman also have good burst, but the don't do amazing dps.

When it comes down to specifically what your asking, i would probably narrow it down to a mage or a warlock. Look for some videos and see which playstyle you would like.

Warlocks use demons, dots, and curses as a core part of the class. There pretty much a mage gone evil.

Mages are just your very generic caster class. They use fire magic, frost, or arcane magic. Mage will have a slight edge of warlocks in pvp , because frost mages have great mobility, crowdcontrol, and burst.

Warlock will probably be easier and faster to level btw, but just play what you think will be fun. Blizzard has came a long way in wotlk of making pretty much everything viable.

Destro warlock at level 80 is the best burst DPS I've seen.

I play one right now, and I get 15k Incinerate and Chaos Bolt crits regularly.

Don't even get me started on conflag crits *creams*

Mages get crits that are just about as large, sometimes even larger. But Warlock is the most bursty i think. I love playing destro and stringing together two huge conflag and chaos bolts crits, then a bunch of backdrafted incinerates. It's ALOT of big numbers lol.
