I've found that really.. pre-ng+ it's just about upgrading what you need upgraded. Base it on your play style. I have a royal as well, and i kinda kept faith/intelligence equal, upped strength a bit for winged spear, end and vit a bit up and a lot of dex.
I run around switching between winged spear +3 and some bow +2 right hand, spiked shield (can almost wear purple flame shield) and some magic relic. Snipe / magic when needed, otherwise spear + shield (: Light armor, thief ring and the +30% hp when soul thing, switch to the +mp regen when needed. I'm not much further than you, but you really don't need to change much. Just keep upgrading the spear to +3, get your shield up to +6 and grab the purple flame shield from 1-1. 1-2 is pretty easy, and I can tell you how to kill the red dragon if you want Lots of items to be had from killing it, plus 8k souls for kill + demon soul.Demon's Souls isn't really walkthrough-able outside of bossfights and hidden items. It's all about your play style and skill, and fixing what you're having troubles with. Hard to give a guideline for items or stats :\

i've seen 2 ways of killing the dragon which were, stand on top of the tower and shoot it with a bow or use that poison cloud ability. Any clues on a decent bow to use?

You can get the one from the body up on top of the first tower. That's what i used, and 150 arrows. Face the direction that you came in, and just shoot for his head. Takes about 100 hits to kill him. You'll see his hp bar pop up / small trail of blood if you hit him. Pretty easy (:

I'd say screw Royal and pick up a club and turn it into Meat Cleaver (need Swollen Demon's soul), one of the best weapons in the game due to its stat scaling. Don't focus on going magic+melee because you're really going to gimp your character online.
You can turn your winged spear (has to be plus 7, also you need Lead Demon's soul) into a Scraping Spear and armor break black phantoms that invade your game (people will be stupid enough to attack you and you can poke em while their in animation), giving you a huge advantage when breaking their shield, they take damage when they block. You can literally mop enemies going 2 handed with Meat Cleaver because the knock back hits enemies down and you can continually drop em and your swing will probably hit multiple enemies. You should focus on end, str, dex, and faith. Main stats used for bows and your meat cleaver which should own. Vitality, you can upgrade once you feel satisfied enough with your other stats. If you feel like that a sudden change is too difficult, I guess you should stick with Ithian's advice. Last edited by LaoKidBC; 11-04-2009 at 04:54 AM. |

I also recommend getting the meat cleaver. It's been a while since I last played Demon's Souls, but on my last 3 playthroughs I pretty much only used the meatcleaver.
Another suggestion I have is that you increase your maximum equip weight so that you can wear good armor/weapons and still run fast and dodge (by keeping the equipped weight under half of the maximum iirc). If you plan on wearing light armor this shouldn't be a problem though. |
