No, the point was that law abiding citizens owning handguns doesn't increase the level of violent crime, which is what we've been talking about for like the last 5 pages.

and owning a gun doesnt mean you will be less of a victim, it just means that in any given situation there is an abnormally high chance of somebody getting killed over something pointless, which is what we've been talking about for like the last five pages.

Well first off mentally stable people don't just shoot someone over some petty argument.

The people who kill over things like that probably have illegally obtained weapons anyway and most of that shit goes down in the inner city.

And the possibility of someone having a gun in their house absolutely does deter potential home invasions, whether you actually have one or not.

dude, having a gun doesnt deter people because they dont know youve got one. unless you have a sign on the front of your house or unless you walk around wearing it in a holster.... which im betting most people dont.

but if you have a society where everyone has a gun then criminals are more likely to use firearms themselves. this is a very bad situation because it means that petty crime or things like burglary, car theft, muggings and stuff like that suddenly become potentially alot more dangerous.

having a weapon doesnt make you less of a victim of crime. all it serves to do is raise the stakes and increase the likelihood of someone getting hurt or killed.


if nobody has weapons then criminals are far less likely to use weapons when committing crimes. more dangerous means of deterrence only lead to more dangerous means of attack, its a cycle which is ultimately self destructive.

the only reason that the united states hasnt learnt this yet despite it being a civilized member of the western world is because the right to bear arms is enshrined in the constitution and in the american way of life.

sorry dude, but im gonna have to call BS. no criminal is gonna go in bare fist cuz noone has guns/weapons and for a fair fight. THey want(NEED) the upperhand so they will arm themselves regardless, not many people look menacing with their hands...

You're right, they don't know if you have one, which is a hell of a lot better than them knowing you don't have one.

Handguns are extremely easy to acquire illegally already, banning them would do absolutely no good for most people.

I expect what would happen is an increase in break ins and probably a lot of other crime overall, please tell me how it could possibly be a good idea?
