Also, your neighbours turned into crackheads and tried to mug you? This is sounding like Dawn of the Dead now, man.
Lol what's wrong with carrying something to defend yourself with?

Underground isnt that bad really and which colleges are you talkin bout?

Although I don't agree with carrying weapons to defend yourself, the saying goes.

"Either be a victim or be the victor."

Georgia Tech and UGA, and a few others, when I look at local news someone has been robbed at gunpoint for an iPod or laptop at Tech usually.

I suppose it's the principle of "If you're carrying it to defend yourself, you intend to stab somebody with it".

I wouldn't say you deserve to go to jail for it, but, think about what you're saying about yourself when you carry one.

Are you willing to potentially kill somebody to defend the $10 and old cellphone you have in your pockets?

I have to agree with Norrin on the knife sentiment. Mace/pepper spray is probably going to a more effective tool than any knife you can legally carry.

But, do what you need to defend yourself. If someone is willing to point a loaded gun at you...who's to say that your belongings or pride is all that they are going to take?

Well I don't usually carry any weapons because where I live it isn't really necessary unless you plan on going downtown (just asking for trouble really).

But I don't really blame anybody who does, better safe than sorry.

Better safe than sorry?

In London, if you're caught with a knife, saying "Just in case!" will not help you one bit. You're safer without a weapon.

You're safer from the law, you're safer from jailtime, you're safer from the emotional (Possible) burden of having to kill or wound, you're free from getting into a violent altercation that may result in YOU dying.

I have a good job, I can make more money. If someone wants what's in my wallet, as opposed to killing me and taking it anyway, they're welcome to it. How is anything else more logical?

That's why, whether they're good or not, we have police. To do that job.

If nobody carried anything to defend themselves with, there'd be nothing to defend yourself against besides bare fists.

Ideal world, that is.

True, it's not an ideal world, but the cycle is made greater if you become part of it. If criminals know that victims are carrying knives, they'll carry guns. Escalation.

Let's take the example of a crackhead, since that's what everyone uses (As if drugs cause all street crime). Why does someone like that deserve to be stabbed? If a drunk dude picks a fight with me, I'll never hit back, simply because it's just not fair. Drug addicts are USUALLY more lucid, but that's still not the point. Statistically, any policeman/woman will tell you, drug addicts are more about scaring you into giving them the money than actually committing murder.

Aside from the people carrying weapons to assault you with.

It's not always just about the money either.

I agree carrying a knife is pretty stupid but women carrying pepper spray or someone keeping a gun in their car seem pretty reasonable to me.
