If you want an easy game, play LoL.
-Designed so an any simple mind can understand

If you want a competitive game, play HoN.
-Hard to get at first if you're new to DotA's style of gameplay, but after learning it gets really good.

My opinion: Heroes of Newerth.

not too mention a bad item shop system. it's like learning dota all over again..
LoL is like DoTA, just everything is different and new. On the other hand HoN, which copped DoTA to the tee, apparently is more confusing and harder to learn, even if you've played DoTA before.

My mind is blown.

As for my own recommendation: If you have Wc3, stick with (and learn) DoTA before playing either. If that's not a possibility, just play LoL, just because the learning curve is probably a lot easier, and the community is nicer.

The game is more random than the lottery son. Can you name me some real competitive games with so much things the player has no complete control of?
After getting stunlocked by a hero having the brutalizer I realized there is no skill involved in doing that (go figure lol) nor there is any fun in winning or losing like that. There are only a handful long lasting hard disables in LoL which makes the game more about controling your champion instead of just turning battles into disable fests. If someone is willing to check all the heroes in LoL I think there are like two with random chance abilities (master yi's double strike and sion's ignore pain) with only several items that have a random chance to proc whose effects aren't as powerful as DotA random chance items.

Having a lot of people say that HoN is more competitive than LoL reminds me of the middle ages where the majority believed and defended the idea that the earth is the center of the universe even though that was false. I guess quality beats quantity after all.

But that's my view on the matter, don't let it stop you from enjoying whatever game you play.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Competitive play in LoL is completely based around long stuns with no diminishing returns. This was made even stronger by them taking away Morgana's ability to remove stuns.

What long lasting stun? The only long (dota standards long) is ashe's arrow, the rest is like 2 or 2.5 seconds (malphite, taric, sion). Amumu's ult just prohibits movement.
And morgana's shield was sick, and it's still sick.

HoN has 55 hero's, fast-paced intense arcade action (i love the announcer haha), good graphics, clan support, excellent website + ladder

LoL is very slow, very cartoonish graphics, annoying announcer accent, something like 30 hero's..."edit: oh yeah LoL has Summoner Leveling system, so the more exp you have, the more perks you get (which IMO is very lame)"

i don't know, honestly it just seems like LoL is for children...

i never played WC3, i never played DotA, i never even knew about this "MOBA" style of game before...i'm 27 years old and after about 22 years of gaming from Coleco Vision to WoW/Aion/CoD MW2/Fallen Earth...i can honestly say i really enjoy this genre of game...i don't know what it is...but i love it...it takes alot of skill....

creepwalking, last hitting, denying,...all those small things have a huge impact on late game performance...

anyways....HoN is in closed-beta right now, the invites are currently not working (but i'm sure you can find unused key's easily) so you might be better off to check out LoL...it actually helps people who aren't used to these style of games, and gets them ready for HoN haha

also check out Bloodline Champions
http://www.bloodlinechampions.com/

that game is gunna pwn

What is DOTA?

So, what is DOTA anyway?

DOTA, short for Defense of the Ancients, is a custom map made for Warcraft III: Frozen Throne. DOTA is a team strategy where players can choose sides and his own hero. There are two sides on the games, Sentinel and Scourge. Players on the same side fight the other players on the opposing side to win the game. The objective of the games is to destroy the opponents’ base together with AI controlled units called creeps. Heroes start at level 1 and levels up to level 25. Heroes level up during the game while killing opposing heroes and creeps. Heroes gain skill when they gain additional levels. DOTA can be played as starting 1v1 up to 5v5. This could be against human players or AI controlled heroes which can be played on DOTA AI maps.

DOTA was originally developed by a mapmaker named Eul. There were different DOTA variations that time. The most popular one is DOTA All Stars which was developed by Guinsoo. When Guinsoo retired, IceFrog took over as the main programmer for the map.

DOTA is more on strategy than individual play. Even though players have their own heroes, it is their teamwork that is very important to winning the game. Although factors like individual skills also matter, a very good player with team mates that doesn’t care a lot about the team can’t just win by himself against all his opponents(unless of course he’s far too good and his opponents are new to the game).
LoL and HoN are both based on what Guinsoo created. I don't recommend you play unless you're willing to spend time and dedication to learn the game.
