I've played both LoL and HoN, In HoN the community is crap, but in LoL its not always good either, some games i end up in, my team mates dont speak at all and do whatever they want, its the same in HoN. But i've never been called a Noob or a retard in LoL.
I found LoL to be easier then HoN, it had a nice easy learning curve, while HoN's was steeper. seeing as i'd never played DOTA. just my Two cents but whatever |

People say HoN is hard to learn, but I found it rather easy.
For items there is a recommended section for every specific hero. If you're called a noob or a retard it's probably because you never talk or you never listen to your team. I've been playing this game non-stop and I absolutely love it. I myself have never enjoyed DotA since it seemed boring, but I love HoN. |

HoN isn't for the faint of heart.
It's a straight up competitive game. It's meant for leagues, tournaments, and any and all forms of organized team-play. The game is absolutely magnificent, polished and it allows for any play-style as long as it involves team-play. I played both LoL and HoN extensively and I can tell you with full certainty that the real zest, the competitive spirit of DoTA isn't present in LoL while it's fully refurbished in HoN. If you're looking for a game to kill time then you should play LoL seeing as it's an -easy mode of HoN's -easy mode. |

I've played both games extensively and HoN is by far the much more superior game. It will live longer due to the fact that it will be supported by top DotA teams / players (it already is, Loda, Chu, and JohnnyUtah play it already).
If you want a game that holds your hand, doesn't involve much player skill at all, and revolves around ganking and turtle fests, then play League of Legends. That being said, League of Legends is a much easier game to pick up, but that's because it's a much, much, much simpler game than HoN. Also, alot of items / heroes are absolutely way overpowered. HoN is a game that's very complex, has a terribly large learning curve, has a stupidly immature community. However, it is easily the more polished, the more complex, and the better game than League of Legends.Everything in HoN is better than League of Legends except community (and it doesn't lose by much anyways) and learning curve. I mean, the fact that they removed denying in League of Legends should tell you that they tried to noobify the game and failed miserably. |

man.. just like any other thread regarding LoL or HoN, it turns into an endless debate..
just stop it.. the OP is asking about LoL so just stick with it. if you want to talk about HoN or debating about how HoN is better than LoL then just create another thread. otherwise stick with the question from the OP. on the topic: DOTA is a costumize map from warcraft 3. if you have played any warcraft games ( i mean the RTS game, not WoW ) then the gameplay is abit similar. in dota ( or LoL or HoN ) you only control 1 hero instead of controlling a whole race. you don't have to build any buildings. it's just a heroes vs heroes map. most games are played as a 5v5 match. there are more than 40+ of heroes and different kind of items. of course everytime you start a game, you start at level 1. max level in dota is 25 and max level in LoL is 18. my advice is just download the game. LoL is free anyway so you got nothing to lose ( other than your bandwith ) LoL has the same gameplay as DOTA except they have extra features such as the rune system, masteries system, summoner system, reconnection feature, custom skins ( but you have to use real money to get the skins ). the core gameplay is still the same as dota. I hated playing DotA within Warcraft 3, and I pretty much despise RTS games in general, yet I love playing LoL.

i still have my 3 invites but i heard the invite system is not working atm. @gloomba38: currently icefrog is making a new stand alone dota game with valve. no information is given yet regarding the game ( if he decided to change completely from the original or not.. ) but i expect to see anti-leaver, reconnection features and whatnot on the new game. looking forward to the game.
