Sure, China, Russia and all those other serious countries might put their soldiers through a lot of discipline but that doesn't mean they would come out to be a good soldier. American and British soldiers get the proper training needed.

The last major offensive of the PLA was the invasion of Vietnam in the '70s.
The Vietnamese ate the PLAs lunch and sent them running back across the border. Bigger is not necessarily better.

In 1939, one observer in Europe said "thank God for the French Army" The Wehrmacht was not impressed.
