Assassins creed the first one, is this a sandbox game im in desperate need of this knowledge

it is. well kinda. plays like Grand theft auto. heres what wikipedia has on it.

no it's not like GTA...assassin's creed is mission based unlike GTA where you can do all you want, and it feels like prince of persia meets splinter cell, and in this case, you're an medieval assassin

Yep, also think it's closer to splinter cell than GTA...

Agreed. AC is mission based, but it does have free realm(when actually executing the mission).

ya there are some free roaming elements but it's very limited

well as long as i can walk around and free roam im fine with it i don't care how limited i just want to be able to explore a map fully
