Yeah, I'm pretty lucky, my city has a small record store that not too many people shop at, but it has some really good music that you wouldn't expect them to have. It has a lot of vinyl and DVDs, too.

Finding CDs isn't hard.

I own over 2,000 of them and they range from bands and artists you can get in an HMV, and ones you'll probably never hear of.

You can get pretty much any CD you desire on the net, for cheaper too. It's your own choice whether or not you use it.

On the other hand, I've never shoplifted or stolen anything physical from a store because I think its wrong.

So what's different between pirating a CD and stealing it from a store? Technically nothing, but one still feels a-ok and one feels wrong to me.

I half agree with you, brutzer. If a person pirating something never intended to buy the product in the first place, then it will only have the possibility of benefitting the developer. But that's too sweeping a generalization to make - surely some of the people who pirate would have purchased the item legitimately if they did not have the option to steal.
Well, you don't think it's wrong because you do steal. So that's out.

My guess is that you don't do it in person because, oh I dunno, ya might be a bit scared of the police finding you, which is highly unlikely on the net.

Saying "you don't think stealing is wrong because you steal" doesn't make an ounce of sense. The majority of people who steal know that its wrong, unless they've somehow deluded themselves.

I don't steal in person because I think its wrong. Sure I don't want to get caught by the police, but even if I know I wouldn't get caught I wouldn't do it because I think its wrong.

Pirating over the internet, on the other hand, doesn't feel wrong. I agree that its just as wrong as shoplifting, but it just doesn't feel as bad. Probably because a ton of people do it and there's no social stigma attached to it. In fact I daresay that there are a lot of people who think shoplifting is wrong but downloading music over the internet is not. I wouldn't date a girl who shoplifted. I wouldn't care if they pirated movies and music. In any case it has absolutely nothing to do with your argument that a thief doesn't think that stealing is wrong.

Fair point.

As long as you're honest and agree it's wrong.

My nearest CD plus was 1hr20ms and nearest HMV was 2hr... they were both real small stores too.

And for people who don't have credit cards, paranoid of buying stuff off the internet, and those who don't want to wait a couple weeks for it to be shipped.

1) Fair enough.

2) No reason to be, illogical. There are more than enough safe stores online. Amazon for example.

3) Couple of WEEKS? They ship within 2-3 business days.

That's the problem with people like you who make excuses, you just want to steal. You don't NEED IT NOW, NOW, NOW. Why is waiting for it to arrive such a chore?

Cause that's where impatience comes in, following greed, and having it unfair to the producers of any product or software.

Piracy is completely wrong, although everyone does it CONSTANTLY, even myself. Then again its a way of saving money then to buy a whole new copy of your own and then figuring you dislike it...
