Default The origin of different MMO terms

So most MMO gamers know what these terms mean, but do you know why things are called the way they are and where these now-common terms come from?

Gank, to kill a single player with a large group, i.e. "Our raid group just ganked a bunch of noob" - originally from "gang kill," from other earlier MMOs.

Kite, killing a monster while leading it in a certain pattern where it follows you but never gets close enough to attack, i.e. "It takes a long time but I can kite high level mobs on my Archer" - refers to the way in which kiting is done, the player pulls the mob on a "string" and the mob follows like a kite on the end of that string.

Mule, alternate character made to store items or set up shops, i.e. "I have no more room, let me put this on my mule." - Mules carry stuff. Kinda obvious I guess.

Nerf, to make weaker or worse, i.e. "They nerfed all the warriors in the game and now they do no damage" - Refers to the "Nerf" company that makes soft-foam versions of footballs, guns.

Ninja looting, what a player breaks looting rules and manages to obtain an item that he doesn't need or agreed not to roll on, i.e. "Dude that Knight just ninjaed the cloth robe I needed." - Ninjas are stealthy and they steal stuff. So...yeah. Also obvious I suppose.

Proc, usually refers to skills or items that have a random chance to do a certain thing when used, i.e. "When I use this skill sometimes a defense boost will proc." - Short for programmed random occurrence.

Reroll, to start over or create a new character, i.e. "Druids suck so I rerolled a sorcerer." - originally from Dungeon and Dragons, where people actually had to roll dice to get their character's stats.

Twink, to outfit a low level character with good items from a higher character, i.e. "I just twinked my Paladin with a complete Sigon's set." - Have no idea what it comes from, but apparently a twink is an attractive, boyish-looking young gay man (so, Jammi, amritie? )

There's other stuff like "farming" and "nuking" that doesn't really need any explanation, but those are some that I thought were interesting

Never seen someone using Proc, interesting to know though.

I would say Spawn, Spawning is also a common term taken by MMO gamers. Pretty obvious as well.

probably long before the game i learned most of these terms from, Dota. (cept we called the mule the chicken)

twink and ninjaing i heard from WoW, but it probably goes back much more than that.

Reroll i heard that from Maplestory, but again probably a term that was made before that

Yes, it is.

I always feel like very few people here actually play mmo's, at least in general anyway.
