In a single player RPG you find that your actions actually have an effect on the world. In an online RPG your actions are reversed, and so when it feels like you are making headway you actually have to do it over, and over, and over.
Offline RPG's are in some ways much better because it is much easier to balance a game for a single person than it is to balance the game for multiple players on at the same time. Most of the time I have to say that I prefer single player RPG's more than multiplayer rpgs. |

Online RPG: Enjoy for the merit of being possibly better than everyone else.
Offline RPG: Less kids running around calling you a n00b or ruining the context of the Game by talking about things pertaining to real life. If you play RPG's for aesthetics, go for Offline. If you play RPG's for their characteristics of the style of the genre, go for Online. But most of all, you could get off your pooper and enjoy a brisk stroll through your shitty little town.

Pretty much the only thing you'll get a better experience is multiplayer aspects with online RPG's - which is teamwork during raids and bosses and PVP. Most offline RPG's are designed for single players and even the ones with multiplayer options are pretty limited in what you can do.
All in all, the majority of the systems used in online RPG's are done better in offline ones. Rune Factory Frontier is a perfect example of that. Some single player games have just as much or more grind than MMORPG's especially if you want to do endgame stuff. It's just a lot more interesting to grind on offline games in most cases.
