I think you're forgetting that sky-scrapers and other multi-story buildings were a rarity in most communites in the past, hell cities in general were highly uncommon. Also ,it wouldn't take much thinking, just a small realization that the ship you see in the distance is either on a curved surface or coming up from underwater, which is obviously impossible. Could you please rephrase the first part of your post though? I didn't understand it.
