So my friend has wireless internet yet he still puts one of these card looking things in his laptop to gain internet, why is this? What are those cards things for?

3G, wifi or bluetooth expansion card.
Used to get 3g/wifi/bluetooth on a laptop that doesn't have it built in, by putting a card in the expansion slot.

Either his laptop does not have a built in wifi card, or his built in wifi card is slower than the expansion card?

Why don't you ask him?

Probably because the card receives the signal better than the built in wifi does.

If anyone would like me to build a rig, I'd prefer it to be in a thread in the tech section rather than PM. Thank you.

Usually built in antennas are much much larger.
He could have a laptop that is ancient enough to lack wifi or have a really old standard (slow).

Just guessing though.

Well actually what I really want to know is what it does. And from what you and snowbunz said I'm thinking it makes you're wifi signal better. Also I don't wanna ask him because it's his dad's laptop and he probably doesn't know what it does =P

It is a WIFI card.

It does not make WIFI better.

It's like a network cable does not make your network "better"; it's a network cable.

¿Comprende?
