Man this is like my 6th time posting a problem, I am just no good with computers.
My laptop recently has begun shutting down by itself. I managed to do a full scan before it randomly shuts down and found nothing. Sometimes it's right after I turn it on, sometimes it's hours after. Whats weird is that when I do turn it on, there is a light above the power button, indicating that it is plugged in. When I shut down, the light goes off. I has been flashing. When I look at the battery icon, it constantly changes from "Plugged in" to "Battery Life". This explains why my battery is drained EVEN though I am charging. At first I though it was a virus or perhaps a software problem which would force me to do a clean reformat, but I think other wise now. I suspect that something is wrong with where I usually plug in the charger on the laptop. I guess I came here hoping someone can reinforce what I think or fortunately tell me it's some sort of software problem because I cannot afford to send my laptop to repairs, especially a couple of weeks before exam time, and a week before final projects, but then again, I don't have a choice really. I have already opened the back of the laptop to clean the fan using a compressed dust cleaner. Some thing occurs. Can anyone tell me if it's a hardware or software problem? Thank you. EDIT: If it helps, the light indicating my laptop is plugged in flashes even when it is shut down; ocassionally it does not flash. I was writing the above problem on my laptop with about 23% battery, which should mean even if there is something wrong with the plug I should still have some life with the battery. Well, it still shuts down, regardless of how much battery is left. I found that the battery light is also flashing (indicates when a battery is in). FML.

Remove the battery, plug in the power and boot.
I don't know much about laptop hardware, but I assume if the laptop boots this would mean there's a bad circuit in your battery.

Well I do take it out and put it back in a lot; my uncle told me that I shouldn't have it in unless it's very low. Do retail stores sell laptop batteries that would fit my laptop or would I have to reach the company itself for one?
Also, it does shut down when the battery is not in. EDIT: After my sister going on for about 3 hours now, I decided to put the battery in. I plugged it into my room to see if it was the outlet that was the problem. I began noticing the symptoms, where the power and battery lights were flashing. After taking about the battery, the laptop shuts down. It is now having problems booting without shutting down randomly. I have no doubt that it is now the battery that is the problem. What are the solutions? Do I have to send it back to Acer? Are there any retail stores that may sell or even fix batteries?

It could just as well be your notebook PSU or one of the cables or the plug or the inlet on the laptop that has a bad contact.
Most likely: Inlet; which means that you most likely would have to exchange the main platine of the lap. Also you can order replacement batteries online. |

I have been suggested to try using a friend's battery/cord, he has the same model, different hardware. I think I will try that to know what is causing the problems.
I put my laptop on top of a fan (one of those flat ones you buy for laptops). I used to put it on a wooden table. After creating this topic, my laptop cannot head to the Boot screen (where I choose what Windows I want) withhout the battery, my brother has been using it for an hour or so with the problems and with the battery draining while plugged. Thank you for the suggestions. |
