I hurt my ankle playing the other day so I figured it's about time I invest in some new basketball shoes. I've been out of the loop for awhile so I don't even know where to start anymore.
Try and keep it under $100 if at all possible I ain't in the NBA goddammit. |

What about these, are they any good? Would prefer a response from someone who actually plays. |

If you're going to hurt your ankle, you're going to hurt your ankle no matter what high top basketball shoes you wear. I recommend getting some supportive ankle braces and pair them with a decent pair of high tops. I've had some nasty ankle sprains in the past, but after getting some ankle braces, I haven't suffered one in over a year.
The shoes in your link should work fine. I'd personally recommend the kobe hyperdunks which seem to be on sale right now, as long as you get ankle braces too. |

If you looking for shoes always go Nike first of all. Go to eastbay.com. Largest online distributor of shoes and is owned by footlocker. I just bought myself a pair of Nike Hyperize for 75$ with a coupon but you should look into Hyperdunks. If you want things lower than 100$ its not easy to get good basketball shoes.
EDIT: Yeah get an ankle brace. I got one now and I havent rolled my ankle in forever. I play basketball about 3 hours a day for 5 days a week and ankle braces help more than shoes. But good shoes also have better traction and lets you change direction faster without sliding etc...unless you play outdoor ball...dont get hyperize or hyperdunks or anything expensive. Playing outside ruins the traction and basically makes the shoe worthless.

Hyper dunks are by far the best you can get for that price range.
I'm personally wearing foamites right now, by far the most comfy ball shoes I've worn(air Penny II I believe ?). However they're hard to find for under 120. It also depends on what position you play, personally I played 3, and I needed light shoes so I could keep running but if you're lets say a big man you're more likely going to need more ankle support than I did. You should be wearing an ankle brace until your ankle heals completely. I wore a tensor and had a brace on for almost 6 months my SR year. I also love my Awnser XIII's for ballin' outside. Not an excess amount of support, if much in the first place but I recommend them for budget shoes. Lebron V's are amazing for support, but I also think Air team trusts(III I believe are high tops ? ) are great for support. They also look nice. |
