Hello, I am new to this Forum.
I am not sure in which Thread to place this request. My Request is for a Free 3D MMORPG Open-Source Bundle that comes with a Client and Server Install and easy to modify. I am looking for something similar to Ultima Online. I had a version of the Open-Source emulator that came with a Client and Server Installation. Scripts were in C#, and was pretty nice to work with. However, I had it running on Win98 machine. I spent a good amount of time re-modeling an island and scripts for the NPC and getting it ready to make it available to the Internet. Time has changed and I am looking for a similar Medieval game like Ultima Online, however in 3D. I've heard of PlaneShift and WOW being able to emulate it. However, over the two, I would probably like PlaneShift better and I would rather stick to Free Licenses "Open-Source" under the GNU. What am I looking for? - Client & Server Bundle Package - Medieval style with basic function that works (similar to Ultima Online) - Easy to Program and modify > using Scripts rather than core programming - Supports import of 3D models (would like to model my house and other things) - Good forum support to install and get started - Client Supports Windows XP AND Linux - Server Supports Linux - Runs on Low-end Computers (I have no budget, will be recycling parts) - Easy GM in-game tools There will be a maximum of 10 players connected to the Server, may be only accessible through Intranet at this point being. I am looking for an easy 3D environment for a younger audience as well. Using the mouse will probably be more intuitive for the Clients. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. It would be very appreciated and when I get it running, I can keep everyone updated. |

Planeshift, I will not go towards them, because they do not want their source code shared and modified. However, I like the 3D environment.
I am looking for something similar to GuildWars when it comes to movement/interaction. (main control is the mouse, however keyboard can be used) As for Runescape, it is not true 3D. Being able to import my 3D models will be very difficult. It uses Jave3D. Also, because it uses the Browser, certain problems will rise on the Client side. Perhaps same port issues on the server side. Do you have any other suggestions? I though about Realm Crafter, however it seems to have limited information on how it works. I do not want to purchase it ($120-200) without truely knowing what it can do. It seems to be only for Windows OS, as I am looking for one that supports, Linux, Windows XP, and Windows 7. |

They also have a demo, it looks like, so you can try it out first. Check it out and see what you think: http://www.torquepowered.com/products/torque-3d

RealmCrafter Pro would be a good choice for you. Very easily editable and if the new engine (RC2) will be coded in C++. It's also very user friendly.

RealmCrafter, I will see how it feels on the Client side and look for support from certain Admin.
Planeshift, I will look into the GPL in more details. But I was certain, that they said that you're not allowed to use their source code to create your own Private server or such. I'll give that a more in-depth look later on. Torque3D, I've looked into it in the past for other projects (3D interactive simulations), there were too many things that stopped me from being able to use it. I have about 3 different packages that seems to be GPL licensed, I will give them a look on the client side and post what I've learned from them. |

Also, just to clarify here the PlaneShift engine is GPL2-only, not GPL2-or-newer. That means it's license-incompatible with things like GPL3 and Apache 2-licensed code. |

I've looked in to it and there are quite a few, although most of them are quite unfinished/dead/abandoned. Just google "open source 3d mmo". Also search for that on sites like sourceforge and other open source project sites. Good luck!
