People think that because they are a part of a minority that it's okay to be racist. Accually white people are the subjects of racism far too often. |

But heh we're all humans and race is just a label.... a general definition of a group of people that look similar and come from a similar gene pool. Back to the topic, if I asked a group of Asian people if they'd get mad if an AZN person got cast for a American role....they'd feel offended. But really Americans love all types of movies and will cast anyone that will do the part well. Some hardcore followers will make a fuss and yadda yadda but in the end it isn't their money paying for the movie or their money paying the actors and actresses. Movies flop because they are a gamble. Movies try to please a general audience....not just hardcore fans.

In my opinion when it comes to race I couldn't really care all the much. They can stray a bit from the source material as long as the actors they get are good. There are certain times when race matters, but Avatar isn't really one of them at all. Some people just have issues. |

They're not "black characters now". John Stewart was/is A member of the Green Lantern Corps. Just like you can have black police officers. Also, race depends on character history. For example, Blade is a black man, but his story is not something that couldn't have happened to a white guy. It was just chance that it happened to be a black guy. Black Panther, however, has his roots in a fictional African nation/tribe, so him being white would be perplexing. It's confusing to me that they made Heimdall a black guy, but he doesn't have much flesh on show anyway, I doubt he'll have much screen time, also. |

The water nation was like native american or eskimos Earth nation full of i dont know indians? Air...chinese? Hard to tell. Seeing that cast im perfectly fine with it. Except prince zuko, WTF he looks like he could be their father. I mean like he's supposed to be like their age, and he doesnt even look the least bit asian.

Fire is more.. traditional looking Chinese. Earth is supposed to be equivalent to Eurasia (ty Avatarwiki), so it has mixes of the different races/fashions. The main cities are Chinese-ish, and the outlying regions tend to vary based on what environment is like. In other words, Asian with varying styles of dress based on region. Water nation is like some kinda weird.. Brown hair, tan/dark skin, blue eyes. They're like Eskimo mixed with.. something. Maybe Ainu? I always assumed Air was supposed to be the Shaolin Temple equivalent. So Asian. |
