I myself, being a pretty oblivious person, will unintentionally reply to two year old threads and get a warning for necro posting because of that. It's kind of annoying me that these old threads that have long been abandoned aren't cleaned out or at least closed in any way, and I believe it would keep the forums more organized and updated. And it'll also keep fools like me from getting banned for unintentionally bumping super old topics. Another reason is also because of the 1000-some pages in some parts of the forums. I highly doubt there are people who still look at posts that old and actually bother to find them. o3o

Locking topics that get over the age limit is a possibility. But as it stands necroposting is rare enough that the Administration doesn't need to put forward resources to stop it.
Forum cleanout still exists in that we disable forums that are inactive and turn them into archives. (http://www.onrpg.com/boards/game-archive/) |

To expand on necro posting. We do realize that some sections are not active as others. As long as the post is one the first few pages there is no REAL problem responding to it. In a section that doesn't get activity we usually let it slide.
The only ones we typically go after are the threads that are literally months, to a year, old. Locking old threads at this time just isn't going to happen, and I don't see anywhere in the future were this will happen. |
