Default Persona: Ties that Kill (Semi-Lit RP/Open)

Only a select few wield the power of a Persona,
and the Dark Hour is a frontier that is ours alone to explore.

✚ Momento Mori ✚
A Persona Roleplay.

The time has come to wield your power.
Going forward, there is one thing you mustn’t forget.
You must accept your destiny.

Rules

1. No godmodding

2. No auto-hitting ((ex. So and So cut off Bob’s arm with a sword.)) Something small like ((The sword grazed Bob’s cheek.)) would be acceptable.

3. No auto-killing. ((ex. So and So ripped Bob’s heart out with a spork.))

4. I’m sorry if your name is bob. lol

5. Romance is allowed but keep it PG-13. I don’t want to see inappropriate touching or nudity. Inappropriate touching is allowed for comedy.

6. Swearing is allowed but not to an excessive amount. The occasional damns and hells are fine. I will also allow more if it’s plays to your character.

7. Be semi-lit as in talking in here " " and actions outside.

8. Multiple characters are allowed just don’t create a whole army.

9. Try to post at least once a week. Try to be on at least half an hour a day I can understand if you can’t with school and all.

10. Try to not rp freeze someone as in leaving in the middle of a battle or when people are in your PC and not logging on for a week someone. Either have your character run away from the fight, grant a fellow rper the control of your character and PC, or make sure to log on the next day.

13. I want long term RPers that will stick around for months if possible. This is new kind of rp style that is really dependent upon the rpers. This is an experimental style for me so things might not move too smoothly at first but stick around I’m sure we can refine this rp into something epic.

14. You have any rping friends or old rping partners please invite them to this forum. Let’s try to make one of the largest rps ever. Even if they don’t know about Persona invite them anyway since this rp is really independent of the source material and prior knowledge is not really needed.

15. Only a certian number of people will be starting out with a Persona, if you plan to have your character become a Persona, then yes fill out the form, but put (Not yet) In the title along with your characters name.

16. PM me all profiles please, this is to keep the thread from being to cluttered. Title all profiles ' Persona Is Monkey: (Insert character name) '

17.

THIS RP TAKES PLACE IN A SEPERATE WORLD THAN THE ORIGINAL PERSONA GAMES, AND SO NO LONG LOST SISTERS, BROTHERS, COUSINS, OR ANYONE RELATED TO ANY OF THE CHARACTERS! NO ONE WILL HAVE KNOLWEDGE OF ALL THE INFORMATION IN PERSONA, EVEN IF THEY DO HAVE A PERSONA!

Sorry for the red writing o///o But I've had serious problems with this before..

Wake up to another normal day; school life, getting together with friends, working at your part time job... and oh, yeah, fighting Shadows and chasing a murderer to prevent the end of the world.

Doesn't get any more normal than that, does it?

It started as cases of the start of an epidemic. They call it Apathy Syndrome - a bizzare disease that can't be explained. Citizens, mostly from the city, are falling into a vegetative, unresponsive state over night, without any show of symptoms the day before. Almost like zombies, the only thing they'll say or do is moan or chant about the end of days - and more and more people are falling victim to it. If only that was the end of it...

Within a small Japanese town, located on the edges of a much bigger city, a string of mysterious murders have begun to take place. These gruesome murders have police officials baffled and they've painted themselves all across the news. The rumors have made their way to the city center, and now people are starting to completely avoid the small rural area in fear that they, too, will be murdered. The victims are all violently disfigured, and often found strung on computer wires and TV antennas. There are no clues, no guesses at the culprit. And with each victim, the scenes only seem to be getting worse...

In the middle of the night, at the stroke of midnight, the city changes into something unrecognizable; a labyrinth of mazes and dungeons, painted in dark hues. Anything electrical stops working, and regular people aren't awake or aware of this time - they tranmogrify into coffins, only to come back to reality after one hour passes. In this hidden time, within the maze's walls, monsters - Shadows - creatures of darkness wander in search of human souls to take down with them. Humans are drifting into this time, and Shadows are devouring them, therefore creating Apathy Synrdome victims; but it's a battle that the police can do nothing about. Very few people are awake to this time...

Very few people have the Potential.

There are a rare few who find themselves able to move about in this time without problem. They possess a power unlike anyone else - 'Persona' - and are able to summon their inner selves into a physical form to protect them and those that they love. Some are Naturals - they can summon with simply the will to do as such. They just call out and their Persona comes, no strings attached. Some have to Force it. They're awake to the Dark Hour, the time at midnight, but can't summon their Persona without the aid of an Evoker, a tool designed like a gun, in which the user must place the nozzle at their head and pull the trigger, activating their alternate self. Both kinds are capable of mastering their inner selves to fight the threat coming onto their world.

Most of which are regular teens, attending a regular school, just like you and me; a local Elementary through high school, attended by both the students in the City and in the Rural Area.

A small group of those with Potential have gathered together to collectively combat the threat of the Shadows. But now these unknown murders are popping up, their nature unworldly, and these kids are the only ones that know of Shadows and hidden times. Taking it upon themselves, without police aid, they aim to find the murderer and stop them in their tracks, saving the lives of future victims. With how gruesome the scenes are, how could the Dark Hour not be involved?

Each victim is being violently killed in an alternate time - not unlike the Dark Hour - in a place no one would expect. Inside of the PC/Portals. Killed by their own Shadow, a form of themselve that expresses all of their darkest secrets and desires, only to be denied by their original and given overflowing ammounts of power from that. They kill their human self and take on a more powerful form. Maybe not all those in the PC's are evil - I mean, these Shadows look nothing like those in Dark Hour. They've got human bodies and human voices, just darker thoughts... not every single one could be pure evil, right?

Two separate mysteries, both intertwined with each other.

Those with Potential - Personas - Shadows.

The countdown to the end of the world.

So many players in the game, so many questions unanswered...
And only a certain amount of time to do it.

What happens when that countdown finishes?

Shortened version of the plot of this game?
Think Persona 3, An original story line, and a hint of Persona 4, all crammed into one.
Both situations at the same time. PC and Dark Hour.
That's right.

______►► Two mysteries occur at the same time, taking place in two places; a small town and a large city, both resting on the border of each other, both sharing a school.

______►► In the town; a string of mysterious murders is taking place. Someone is pushing people into ' Portals ', a gate to the PC', world's created by the humans darkest fears, inhabbited by monsters called Shadows that look like darker versions of humans in the real world. When pushed in, the person meets with the Shadow version of themselves, in which the Shadows shows them their dark side. Generally, the person refuses to admit that the Shadow is themself, and once they verbally confess that the Shadow grows into a stronger, monsterous form and murders their original. The murdered humans are found strung on computer wires and TV wires and antennas. The culprit is unknown.

______►► In the city; at the strike of midnight, during Dark Hour, the entire city turns into a gigantic maze labyrinth where monster-like Shadows roam, hunting humans that may wander into that time. They devour them, and then those people become a victim to Apathy Syndrome in the real world.

______►► A group of teens find the power to summon their Persona, and band together to solve the mystery of Dark Hour, and find the small town murderer to prevent anymore deaths, and stop Apathy Syndrome.

__________►►Persona & Potential

_____Persona
_____A Persona is the true self of a human being. Everyone has one; it's their inner being, what they truly are. Some can summon their Persona from the depths of their mind and control it. These Persona grant them supernatural abilities when summoned, and can cast magic and perform attacks. Only those with Potential can summon a Persona. Persona are all identified by one of twelve Arcana which affects their attributes. It is believed that, in truth, Persona are just another variation of Shadows. When summoned, they appear in a creature-like form, often looking nothing like their human self.

_____Potential
_____A human with Potential is one that can summon their Persona, and one that is awake to the Dark Hour. Potential is not within everyone; in reality, it is very rare. Potential allows them to call their Persona, move about and be aware of the Dark Hour, and be able to enter TV Land of their own will. Those with Potential are also sometimes reffered to as Persona Users. There are two variations of them; Naturals and Forced.

_____Natural Persona User
_____One with Potential that can summon their Persona naturally. By simply wishing for them or calling out to them, a Natural Persona User can bring their Persona into being without the aid of an Evoker or any other kind of tool. They summon with nothing but their own mental strength. Natural Persona Users are more commonly from the rural area, but is not always the case.

_____Forced Persona User
_____One who has Potential and summons their Persona through the use of an Evoker. Forced Persona Users can not summon like Naturals; they don't have the ability to call out to their Persona as Naturals do. Instead, they use an Evoker - a gun-shaped tool, without real bullets - to forcefully bring their Persona out. The method involves shooting yourself in the head or temple using the Evoker. In rare cases, Forced Persona can lose control of their Persona, depending on it's power. There is a drug simply reffered to as 'Suppressants' that can be used to calm the beserk Persona's power, but the side effects are extremely negative on the user's health. Forced Persona Users are more commonly from the urban area, but is not always the case.

_____Evoker
_____A gun-shaped tool used by Forced Persona Users to call their Personas. They are used by pointing the nozzle at one's own head and shooting, forcing the Persona out. They do not use or require bullets, and can not be used as a regular weapon.

__________►►Shadows

_____Shadows
_____A Shadow is the dark part of a person's heart, manifested into a physical form. They often feed off of humans and are the cause of Apathy Syndrome, and part of the cause of the mysterious murders. They come in two forms; a monster/creature like form, which reside in the Dark Hour, and a dark human form, which reside in the PC. They do not appear in the regular world. Each one is based off of an Arcana, just like Persona.

_____Monster Shadows
_____Shadows that appear in many different creature like forms. They appear during the Dark Hour and hunt humans that wander into there. A human killed or devoured by one of these becomes a victim to Apathy Syndrome in the real world.

_____Humanoid Shadows
_____These Shadows exist solely in the PC. They appear to be humans, with glowing golden eyes and much darker personalities. There is one for every human being on earth. They are literal dark, mirror images of their human counterparts. While they never come across their human counterparts normally, if they come across they do, they will go into a somewhat stage of insanity and attempt to take over their human, by bringing their human to refuse that the Shadow is a part of them. If they verbally refuse to admit or believe that, a humanoid Shadow takes on an extremely powerful, large, monster-like form and attempts to kill their human. Humans who have been murdered in gruesome ways are humans who were murdered by their Shadows. When not in contact with their counterpart, they seem to be nothing more than slightly darker humans, with wants and needs just the same.

_____Alias
_____A strange man shaped shadow, he is the cause of the Portals appearing in the Computers and Televisions.

__________►►The Dark Hour & Portals

_____Dark Hour
_____A hidden hour directly at the strike of midnight. Only Shadows and those with Potential are awake in this hour. No electronics work during this time. It is an alternate version of the real world, with a darker colour palate and often bloody. Regular people turn into coffins during this time and do not know or remember anything of it. In rare cases, regular people wander into this time, and are attacked by Shadows, causing Apathy Syndrome. Any human that spends time here will gradually tire and weaken until they leave and rest up.

_____Tartarus Labyrinth
_____A maze-like labyrinth that appears in place of the city during the Dark Hour. It contains many rooms and floors crawling with Shadows, some of them variations of places in the real world. In the center there is a large, empty opening, without a roof; revealing the sky. What could go there...?

_____Portals
_____Dark holes in the sky, when walked under the person is sucked up into a victoms PC. They appear thoughing the Dark Hour, and sometimes in computers and TV's. When they appear in computers and TV's, normal humans are sometimes dragged in. They appear completely by chance, or so it is thought.

_____Victims
_____Humans who own the computers or televisions that the portals appear in. Their soul is pulled into a PC, while their body remains in the real world, acting normally and not having any memory of the PC. If the victim is killed in the PC, their body is found murdered, strung onto the cables of their TV or computer. The victim is ussualy being held by the Humanoid Shadow inside the PC.

_____PC
_____The ' Personal Computers ', are where the victims are taken. The Humanoid Shadow's make their home in them. These are worlds crafted by a person's inner thoughts they reflect what their owners hide from the world. The PCs of the victim's will be open for all to see. Only by entering the portals can you save them. However don't take the internet too lightly in the internet you'll find monsters called shadow viruses. So how can you defend yourself against viruses?

__________►►Other Information

_____Suppressants
_____A drug that goes around through drug dealers. It is at medium expense. To regular people, it is just a means of calming down - like a psychiatric drug, only illegal - but to Persona users, it greatly subdues their Persona's strength when beserk, allowing them to control it with ease. It has terrible, long-term side effects that in most cases lead to death, and it is highly addictive.

_____Apathy Syndrome
_____A mysterious sickness in the real world, caused by being killed by a Shadow in the Dark Hour. Humans suffering from Apathy Syndrome become in a vegetative, almost zombie like state, unable to do anything. They do nothing but moan and chant about the end. Those in the real world do not know of the real cause of Apathy Syndrome.

0: The Fool

The Fool is the most complex and most contradictory of all the Tarot cards. "I am not a number, I am a free man". The Fool represents naivety and childlike innocence - yet the Fool is wise. He carries only what possessions he really needs He journeys through life, tasting everything it has to offer then letting it go and moving on. The Fool is a risk taker, often shown with one foot over a cliff showing us every new beginning has a risk. Whether the Fool represents opportunity or danger one thing is clear: this world needs more fools.

I: The Magician

The Magician, represents those aspects of the personality traditionally considered "masculine". He is in control. He knows how things work. He takes action and makes things happen. One that operates through the power of Will rather than brute force. The Magician represents the application of knowledge. The Magician creates his desired reality. When this card appears in a Tarot spread it indicates the attainment of goals through the application of knowledge and Will. If badly aspected in a spread, this card can represent abuse of power. It can indicate manipulation of others, trickery and deception.

II: The High Priestess

The High Priestess is a card of intuition, instinct and hidden knowledge. She knows all your secrets, you can hide nothing from her. Yet you will never know the secrets she herself protects. If well aspected in a Tarot spread, this card can indicate the use of intuition to solve problems; trust to your instincts. If badly aspected, it can mean suppression and ignoring of such instincts - following your head at the expense of your heart.

III: The Empress

The Empress is a maternal symbol. She is the mother figure who loves, nurtures and protects. She will protect you, she will always be there when you are in trouble. When you fall over and graze your knee, the Empress will kiss it better. Yet she is not a weak figure. Her compassion is strength. If her children are threatened she will stop at nothing to protect them. If well aspected in a Tarot spread, the Empress can symbolise security, protection and unconditional love. If badly aspected it can represent over-protectiveness, fear of risk taking and refusal to face the real world.

IV:The Emperor

The Emperor represents power. There is nothing subtle about this Tarot card. The Empress has power through love. The Emperor has power through power. He is in control, he is forceful and ambitious. Nothing will stop him. He is a natural leader, having either been born to the role or having disposed of all those who stood in his way. If well aspected in a Tarot spread this card can indicate success. It represents obstacles overcome, goals reached and ambition fulfilled. If badly aspected it can indicate either weakness or an abuse of power.

VI: The Lovers

This is a card symbolising couples, relationships and strong bonds. The love does not have to be physical, nor even called by that name. This card indicates the trust and openness of such a relationship. The two Lovers have no secrets from each other. In a Tarot reading this card can indicate the forging of a new relationship, the strengthening of an existing one or simply the two Lovers working together to overcome problems. This Card Reversed can represnt the loss of trust, possibly leading to the breakdown of the relationship, decption, pain.

VIII: The Strength

Strength is not just physical strength, it also means emotional and spiritual strength. It is the Strength to do what you know is right in the face of opposition. Strength to defy convention and authority. Stength does not have to be used directly. It can be inner strength that supports one in the face of attacks on what they hold dear. The person of Strength remains true to their beliefs. In a Tarot reading, this card can indicate overcoming of obstacles and refusal to be beaten down. If badly aspected this card can indicate loss of faith, failure of Will.

X: The Wheel of Fortune

The Wheel of Fortune represents the cyclical nature of all reality. Life is change. Stability is stagnation. All things pass. Yet for all that things change, the essentials remain the same. The wheel turns - day becomes night becomes day, rain becomes sun becomes rain, joy becomes pain becomes joy. If well aspected in a Tarot reading, this card can indicate good fortune through change, the wheel turning for now to a better position. If badly aspected this card can indicate what appears to be misfortune. It can also represent resistance to the inevitability of change.

XI: The Justice

The blindfold arbiter weighs the evidence and passes judgement without fear or favour. There can be no appeal.Justice is not necessarily the same as Law. True justice seeks out the spirit of the law, not just its letter. If a law is bad then true Justice will set that law aside. This is the sacred responsibility of those given the power to judge. If well aspected in a Tarot reading, this card can indicate settlement of disputes, the achievement of a just outcome. If badly aspected this card can indicate corruption and failure of justice.

XIII: The Death

Death is probably the most well known Tarot card - and also the most misunderstood. Most Tarot novices would consider Death to be a bad card, especially given its connection with the number thirteen. In fact this card rarely indicates literal death.Without "death" there can be no change, only eventual stagnation. The "death" of the child allows for the "birth" of the adult. This change is not always easy. The appearance of Death in a Tarot reading can indicate pain and short term loss, however it also represents hope for a new future.

XV:The Devil

Despite its fearsome appearance, The Devil is a card of weakness. It is one of the few cards in the Tarot deck that almost always has negative connotations when it occurs in a reading. When the Devil appears in a Tarot spread it can represent lack of achievement through negative thoughts. It suggests character flaws such as greed, bitterness and authoritarianism. All these things can ultimately destroy a person. The rest of the Tarot spread will determine whether or not the querent will overcome their problems or continue blindly on.

XVI: The Tower

If badly aspected this can be the worst card of the Tarot deck. The Tower always indicates upheavel, possibly chaos, loss and destruction. Its effects are never pleasant and can be painful. The card illustrates lightning striking the Tower. The lightning cannot be avoided, the destruction it brings is inevitable. All we can do is attempt to survive and rebuild. The Tower brings sudden, severe change. When the Tower appears in a Tarot spread it represents sudden and possibly violent change, disruption or loss.

XIX: The Sun

This is the happiest card in the deck. It is full of joy and optimism, everything is right with the world. We are as innocent children playing in the fields without care. The Sun brings success, well-being and happiness in all spheres - material, emotional, spiritual -wherever our desires lay. When this card appears in a Tarot spread it indicates success, joy and happiness. Obstacles will be overcome, goals achieved. When badly aspected, it can indicate a stagnation through over-indulgence, too much of a good thing.

__________►►Main Setting
_____ Country: Japan
_____ Year: 2011
_____ Two areas on the border of one another; a small, rural area and a larger urban center. A small town and a city, in which the high school that the teens attend is situated right smack in the middle of the border of the two places.

_____Haruna Town

_____A small place full of locals, where almost everyone knows everyone else. It's a comfortable place, tucked just on the border of a large city, and shares a high school with their urban sibling. There is very little do do there, and most of the residents have to go into the city for their entertainment and some shopping. They have the basics - a small strip mall, a grocery store and pharmacy, a local doctor, small neighborhoods; but are still lacking in quite a bit. Some residents hold negative feelings towards their larger neighbor, simply because of attitude and rumors. Also, the string of mysterious murders have been taking place in the small town.

_____Nara City
_____A large, bustling center of people and businesses, it overshadows a small town that is just beyond it's borders. You can find anything and everything there, and it tends to be rather busy and populated. They share one school with the town, as it rests on their border. They feel some nervousness towards their neighbor with the rumors of all the murders going around, and many people have stopped going to the small place all together. During the Dark Hour, this city turns into a large labyrinth of mazes, completely distorting what it is during the daytime.

_____School
_____While there are many schools within the city, there is one that both the city and town share; this particular school is the one of focus within the story. Directly on the border, it is known for it's mixture of cityfolk and town locals, all together as one. It's a school that teaches grades 1 through 12. Being out of the way somewhat for those in the deeper parts of the city, there are dormitories for the building, located a little further into the town, but still quite on the border. It might be a public school, but it's the best you can get without going private; it offers a good education and is well known.

_____School Dormitories
_____For those students not living at home due to convenience or whatever other reason there might be, there is a large building with many rooms for the students to stay in. This building is located in the town, close to the border. There are eight levels to this building; a main floor with lobby and information, a top floor with a meeting room and other professional rooms, and then six levels of rooms for the students. Floor two is for first year males, floor three for first year females, floor four for second year males, floor five for second year females, floor six for third year males, and floor seven for third year females. It is within walking distance of the school and the town's train station.

_____Train System
_____The city is well connected by an advanced train system, and there is one station down in the rural town for those who wish to go into the city.
