I've got a friend that's itching to go somewhere "exotic" this year and I thought it would be a good experience to get in on volunteer work/projects while there.
Mainly considering India, or parts of Southeast Asia (South/Central America also a possibility). Cambodia is a front runner as we have a mutual friend that lingers around Phnom Phen. Anyone with experience volunteering abroad? Any programs or places you'd recommend? Any place where USD goes far would be a plus. |

tbh, i wouldn't want to be a american anywhere outside the unitedstates at the moment, but i would recommend you help out in the middle east or something, try not to get held hostage by terrorists... The dollar goes far pretty much anywhere besides europe... oh and by the way, make sure you get a malaria vaccine and watch out for them bot flies, they'll lay eggs in ya head. |

My dad is a surgeon and does charity surgery in Honduras and loves it. They've got a fully staffed clinic with all the supplies and equipment they need to perform eye surgeries.
The most I was able to do was to go through their medical supply room and write down the expiration dates. |

There's programs that send you off to another country to teach English. I'm aware of established programs for China, Japan and Korea. Mostly its going to small towns, not the big cities, so it might still exotic enough for you.

To be honest the truth is most of those projects cost YOU money. As the companies cannot pay for your plane nor most of your living. If you want to teach over seas 90% of the time you require a Bachelors degree as it shows you actually have the capacity to teach. India is actually quite safe so is South East Asia as that is where I spent 90 of the days so if you are interested I can probably help you out. YOU DO NOT NEED A TEACHING CERT! However I would suggest you go to more specific websites. But most of the time you simply require a bachelors degree however some DO require either ( A) a few years teaching experience which is only if you are a teacher or ( a cert, however this isn't too common.Paladuck is also not completely right, while many of the cities you teach in for those programs are small towns there are often people that teach in large cities such as Tokyo, Beijing Hanoi etc. As well most times you pay for the ticket but at the end of your teaching (min is most times 9 months or a year) you get a bonus that basically pays for it.
