Default UK Digital economy bill

Anyone heard of this? I think it was passed yesterday. I'm interesting in the whole downloading illegally part of it. It seems the government can now see what people are downloading and suspend you from the internet, block certain sites, fine you etc. I haven't been able to find a lot of information out about it and I'm confused as to what it means. Can we be caught easier now, or is this something I shouldn't worry about? I hope someone with a little more knowledge about this kind of thing can shed some light for me. Thanks.

Did I hear that this pretty much stops us using peer-to-peer, and downloading mods for games based on copyright material. And some notes seem to point at games being rated higher.

I'm gonna have to find a decent summary of this, the one on the site is useless really, and I don't want to be going on the rumours .

EDIT:
http://www.lordswhips.org.uk/documen...ge%20brief.pdf

Well it's a slightly better one.

So it seems no one knows whether we can still download stuff and not get caught?

Looks like a double edged sword to sites like Youtube who deal with copyright claims all the time. Looks like they'll just end up blocking the user end if the websites refuse to cooperate. I doubt huge sites like Youtube or p2p programs like BitTorrent will get blocked as they'd be more that happy to get some help dealing with infringement.

It'll improve the UK infanstructure, which would be good over here in the States but I'm not sure how the situation is over there. Can anyone in the UK comment on the current infastructure?

You guys are transforming into Australia

I'm not surprised, UK is very law-happy. Soon butter knives will be illegal due to potential butter knife terrorists.
