Man, Norrin, you must be absolutely steamed at all of these graphic novel based movies that are butchering the original plot. Although I am enjoying some of the movies that are being made out of this era of making movies out of graphic novels, when I go back and actually take a little read into some of them... they seem so much better.

"THEY RUINED WATCHMEN!", they didn't. My issues of Watchmen are all still here, as amazing as they always have been. It bothers me from a creative stance. Some changes are fine, some aren't. It's SUCH a hazy line, but I definitely know what I do and do not think is ok. Watchmen was an admirable try, but it wasn't anywhere close to the book/series. Alan Moore did more, in a book an inch thick, than Snyder did in a movie that needed an extra DVD and a Director's Cut. You know? That's the OPPOSITE of what people claim. People claim that movies can do more than print, and they can't. I actually think it's distasteful, really. If someone writes a comic of a movie and it's crap, doesn't sell, well then it hasn't cost the budget of a third world nation. Moore's work suffers the most. Frank Miller somehow gets his work translated shot for shot (300, Sin City). It CAN work. Even if the movies aren't as good, which they never are, then at least they can be awesome. I just hate that people are trying to change them for the better. It's so much easier to adapt Iron Man or Spider-Man, Batman even, because they're character stories. They have so much you can draw from and blend to make an enjoyable and functional movie experience. Watchmen etc, these are set stories. So any deviation and change is going to be glaring. It annoys me, but whatever will be, will be. What really makes me mad is the current status of perceived "geek culture", but like I said, that's for another thread and another day. I could go on all day about that. |

A movie?
Oh, I see; It's based on some comic. Btw: Worst trailer I have ever seen. How bad is the movie going to be if cutting together the best sfx and most likely all one-liners into a clip results that boring already. You are than forced to do a search, because there is about 0% non generic content in the movie, just to find out that there is some back story, but in favour of all the shitty cgi it has been dropped. Great. Steam-punk western (where steampunk 1:1 translates into loads of explosions) and a prostitute-love-interest as the main selling points; If that can't turn any story to shit, don't ask me, what it takes.
