I have a 500W power supply, and I was thinking of upgrading my CPU from a 1.8 GHz Quad-Core to a 2.9 GHz Dual Core but it goes over the limit by 15.
I'm using a NVIDIA 9800GT as a video card, and it says 450W on the box. This is the CPU I want. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103687 Is it okay if I go over? Or will my CPU explode? |

The req from the 9800gt is the total amount of watt needed, including stuff like mobo, cpu, hdd etc.
You should be fine. Also, which CPU do you have and to which one do you want to change?

Pretty hard to say you don't need to change it.

Why is that?
I want to run Company of Heroes at Ultra Settings but it requires a 2.4 GHz Dual-Core processor. I can't run Company of Heroes with this processor, I have to run it at the lowest-settings possible and the lowest resolution because CoH has no Quad-Core support. |

The Phenom series (not Phenom II) are the worse quadcores ever made... the Athlon x2 6000+ even raped it, which means it's a step backwards when you 'upgraded' to that CPU.

I didn't upgrade to a 1.8 GHz, I've had it. It came with the computer, since I didn't know about custom built computers I just bought one from Best Buy (I regret it)
I'm saying that I already own the Phenom, and I'm thinking of buying the Athlon x2 In other words, I want to go from the 1.8 GHz Quad-Core processor --> AMD Athlon II X2 245 Regor 2.9GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM3 65W Dual-Core Processor |

You misunderstood me with my 2nd post. I meant with it that you have no reason at all to keep your current CPU.
