Marios's Mustache Wax
|
Hi! I've been on this forum for a while as a lurker.... But I'm signing up to ask fro some help. I saw that someone kinda had a thread about this already for a company that they worked for, but this is a lot different. I'm currently working on a medieval fantasy-styled MMO for the PC. It will be written in C and it's actually coming along very well.
![]() When I look ahead and see the complete version of this game, I see a Fable-like MMO game that handles and looks like Zelda for the SNES. You will create your own character and travel around a new world and do all sorts of things to level up all sorts of stats. The game engine will be completely unique from any other kind of RPG out there. I have been programming for a while, making programs for the PC, PSP, iPhone, and even Palm, so I will be doing all the programming and graphics work for the game, myself. So, what exactly will I need help with if I've got those, the game plan and story taken care of? Well, I have all of these ideas and sketches and plans set out, but I would love some input on my ideas. I don't want to get started with my engine and have to go back and change something because someone has a better idea that they want to offer. I have large databases of weapons, armor, monsters, etc. that I would love people to review and say if they think there should be more or less or even pitch their own unique ideas. So, what do you guys say? Do you guys want to help me out? What do you guys think? I can give you some more information if you guys want.

your programing skills sound pretty legit i'd love to do game art for you
if i dont hear from you soon i'll hit you up on facebook i would love to work on map tiles and scenery and i was thinking how about a sort of sleek less pixely style like kind of modern but not to high end. Also have you thought up any classes? btw if you could send me some visual examples i'd really appreciate it. you can just like post them here if you want too :P

Great! Thanks for your interest in the game!
For graphics, I have yet to really get into that area of development. But, I would love to see what kind of graphics you can do. ![]() As for classes, there aren't 'defined' classes.... It's hard to really explain how that system will work in my game. Basically, you will 'grow' into a class. You will start off with the same stats as everyone else but you will level up your skills as you progress through the game. The skills that you level up are up to you so if you want to train your ARC, you will soon become an archer. If you train your MGA, you will become a wizard. But, you can choose to level up both at the same time if you want. Or, you can choose to level up your other steps and forget about both of them all together. This game will be about making your own character to be how you want him to be. Every player will be different. This is just a sketch of what the game style may look like: ![]() The game will have a pixel-y style to it but will have nice glows, gradients, flashes and shadows. Of course, this is just Zelda for the SNES but I think the sketch somewhat gives you an idea. Of course, the players and monsters will have bigger sprites. |

Well, there won't be diagonals... The game will be gridded in 32 x 32 squares. So, a player will be 64 (h) x 32 (w). But, that idea has not been locked in, yet.
This random sprite I found is about the right size of the characters I'm looking at to put in the game but the way I'm coding the game, the sprites will come together very uniquely and oddly. I would like to see what you come up with, but be wary that they might not fit into the game right. I would have to finish the display scripts... |

Looks like something I'd look into.
One thing I'd love to see is a class system, cause to me that's what makes an MMORPG a MMORPG. The fact you're able to level up is part of it but the diversity between players is what I truly long for as an MMO'er...but then again I am just a simple man with a point of view and not the programmer and with my experience in that field I can see why it is an almost impossible leap to jump for an inde game designer So all in all it looks like it's coming togetherquite fine and I'd love to help in any way possible, weather be - graphics, story plotting, or coding I'm a bit rusty on C+ language cause I've been creating games with Game Maker but I can prob help in that as well >.o |
