Default How harmful is smoking?

I just started smoking not too long ago, and I feel a bit bleh. Like my stomach is just empty and my throat is pretty dry too. Not sure if this is normal, since I am a first time smoker.

Anyway, I was curious just how harmful can smoking be long term? If I do not want to quit, could I just limit myself to maybe 1 cigerette a week (I have self-control, so this is pretty possible).

Lung Cancer, Emphysema are not so serious illnesses caused by smoking.

Trust me, that's harder than you think. My mom used to smoke and it took her a lot of time and pressure to stop. Smoking is one of the worst things to do. It can ruin your life and it can affect other people's lives.
The 'bleh' feeling will, according to my mother, only get worse. Eventually, you might even have breathing issues.
My tip of the day: Stop smoking while you can.

Quitting right now would be no problem for me. People keep saying that cigarettes will get you addicted on the first one. I feel no addiction or whatever. So, I'll probably quit if I am tempted again.

Not only to relieve stress, but I wanted to see how hard it is to really quit with smoking. Call me dumb and risky, but I like to experience things first-hand.

Why don't you get a stressball or go to a therapist? It's easier, cheapier and healthier.

Stressballs don't work for me, really.

I've had a therapist for 2 years of my life and going back would just be pointless. :/

I know it sounds weird, but smoking will only give you more stress. My mom is so much more relaxed now.

I was smoking for 5 long years, i have asthma too.
I was coughing every day, Now i didnt cough for half year, didnt touch a cig a whole half year and i feel so great, its still hard, the coffee in the morning with a sig, wow, my dream haha.
I was in my base, and my friend gave me a book, how to quit smoking by elen kar i think, I had something little to push me, and the book helped me.
I'm not saying quit, I'm saying live your life the way you want to, i'm pretty sure i will come back smoking in 2 years, because in the army i get 100$ a month, so i cant "afford" the cig, when i will have money in 2 years, its probably will go most of it to cig's, my girl friend is smoking too, its so freaking hard to watch her smoke
And yes i was chewing my nails when i was smoking, now i dont touch them = stress..

Pwet is wrong, the first 4 years are for fun a freaking "hobby", after that its an addiction.

Limiting yourself for a 1 in a day is more painfull then smoking 10 a day, because your body got used to the drug, when you smoke your last cig, your drug comes out slowly and you need more of the drug, more and more by the time is passing, 1 a day is more stressfull and killing.. in my opinion.

Lung cancer, the cancer that kills the most, for each 5 people dying, 1 of them is because of cigarettes

You should be able to quit fairly easily in the first 1-3 months, but if you go beyond that, you're pretty much toast

And the addiction is immediate, it's just not glaringly obvious

Cigarettes don't relieve stress, physiologically it's impossible that it does such thing, it's all in your head

Enjoy ruining your life, another one bites the dust
