Crumbly, but Good
|
For me, it was Name of the Wind. Read through it in a day and a half; stayed up all night it was so good. I was a little disappointed that it was all over so fast; but I have two more, longer sequels to look forward to that'll hopefully be just as good
![]() THIS. Jesus Christ, this. I just finished re-reading the Belgariad recently; something I hadn't touched since high school, and it's just as good as ever. It's even better when you realize that the author had just taken a literary criticism class prior to writing the series, and went out of his way to throw in every single cliche he could get his hands on, just to see if he could still write a good book around all the old stereotypes. Needless to say, he succeeded. Awesome, awesome series. Predictable, but then again, it was meant to be. You may say that doesn't excuse it. But I say it does. So there.

Heh, could you explain more about his writing and why the author is so captivating; before I go out and purchase one of his books lol. Chapters should have his books right... if not I guess I can order it from Amazon or something.

His writing style just lends itself to flowing easily into the next chapter. It's a relatively rich world he's made, and unlike most fantasy settings, I was actually interested in learning more about it. It's also just my style of prose; 3rd person, but always told from the perspective of the main character, not too many narrative split; while there is some (alot?) of filler, it mostly deals with detailing the world he's created. The characters, also, work well together. As I said, they're a little flimsy, but they do actually care about each other, and it's evident when you read. Comedy is inserted at the right places, and keeps the narrative rolling smoothly when there's no exploration, or action. That's really the best I can do; it's basically just a flowing, easily-read, high fantasy, generic coming of age story with a nice world.
