There is a test in texas called TAKS (Texas assement of knowledge and skills) pretty much have to take it every year after 8th grade, Although if you pass on your junior year, you dont worry about it your senior year

The test dictates whether You graduate your current grade

This is what the teachers strive to teach you... Only focused on this damn test.., I know people who have graduated from my school that passed the test and were completely lost in college as my dumbass school Dident even cover it

Luckily Im a junior who has already passed the stupid thing..

The "No Student Left Behind" Act basically destroyed anything good that we had left in our school. Teachers are forced to give good grades or else they get their superior, and even the parents of the child, breathing down their neck because somehow it is their fault that the student is not doing good.

This leads to students who do nothing being able to get D's or C's. No one hardly gets F's anymore in the public school system. Rather than keeping a student behind because he needs it they pass this kid forward because they would rather not have to worry about it, and they want more money.

Government funding plays a big part in Education and it's being ripped away with schools now having to cut corners in order to stay a float. While our government is spent billions of dollars saving banks that made flat our retarded decisions, and funding a war that the previous administration got us into, our infrastructure is left crumbling and public schools are showing it.

There is a lot of work that needs to be done to repair our public school system, but none of it will never get done because in this day in age parents like to blame everyone else for their kids problems rather than bad parenting. Because of that the government makes laws that do just that, and try to fix the system so that blame does not fall on the parents but rather those stuck with their kid.

1) Government needs to focus more money on education. The old saying of keep the voters stupid is really starting to show.

2) Give students grades the actually deserve, or just move strait to a 1.00 - 4.00 system. I have seen people somehow get over a 4.00 GPA which makes scratch my head, but they need to focus on something and stick to it.

3) Get rid of certain tests. Multiple choice and fill in the blanks don't really test ones knowledge of the subject, but rather what one can memorize. As much as I hated these types of questions it was the ones that had your write a paragraph on a subject that really show whether or not you actually learned the material in the long wrong. Anyone can remember the year that the Declaration of Independence was written, but asking a student why it was written is something completely different and shows knowledge of the subject rather than memorization.

I may have more to say, but im tired.

Incompetent teachers are hard to get rid of. So basically, if a teacher is hired who later turns out to be garbage, the school is doomed, since it takes years to get rid of said teacher.
Untrue, at my school no "incompetent" teacher lasted longer than a year. Hell, my science class a few years ago made 3 new teachers quit before they just gave us a new subsitute every day.

Do you visit a public school or a private school?

The NCLB act is pretty much what i was complaining about in my post. I hate that damn act. Because of that the school down the street from my high school closed down and we assimilated them into our school. So their students who had bad test scores came into our school, dropping our test grade average. Our school used to be ranked #23 in the nation but now it's like 156. I'm so glad I'm in college now.

If anyone wants to know my GPA for any reason it was a 3.2 on a 4.5 scale. So I'm guessing that is around a 2.9 on a 4.0 scale =/.

Oh yeah, because of that stupid act, no matter how badly a student did for the semester/report card period they can only get a minimum of 50% average even if they had a 2% average. So in a lot of my classes there were people who didn't know about anything we were learning and therefore did bad in class. Even then, they probably passed the class because of the teacher and such.

Students just don't try hard enough. They don't study. They don't care. Whose fault that is and how to fix it is another question...but yea.
