All characters are as good as you are. Though gunners, swordsmen, and fighters are good for beginners.
For gunners(first time) go Mechanic/Launcher/Spitfire(In order of difficulty pretty much). Ranger is pretty much out of the question unless you are obscenely rich.
Also, females are stronger than males(For gunners) in basically all gunner classes, so...yeah.
