Right, i've decided to make a game, hopefully im going to make a 3D MMORPG, but i will settle for a normal RPG.
Im going to get right into what i want out of it, You can tell me if it's possible or not. I want to make a game thats like Second Life , as it's pretty basic. I dont want it to be exactly the same though and i want it to be mainly free, i want it to be in my own genre. I want it to be further in the future with space travel and worlds. I want this part to be like the Star Wars Galaxies space flight. I want worlds that you can build on and sell and rent out things. I want to make money in the end but it be free to start with. Now, i've been desperate to make an MMORPG for ages, i have been researching MMORPG's for a Month. I have learnt lots of scripting languages and am currently learning C++ AND C# i have knowledge in HTML, BASIC, Visual Basic, And quite a bit of C. Im in need of help now, i need a team. Some people to help me get through it, ideas, guidance and skills. I need Artists to make the graphical part of the game and some help in programming. I would love if someone could help me. Just had another idea. I was looking around some forums and was looking at what girls like and boys like, i saw Farmville mentioned and was thinking if i could incorporate that into the game people could make some in game money by owning a farm. I want there to be different classes like in SWG such as Traders (Farmers and Space Miners) and then combat classes and entertainer type classes that make money from dancing and entertaining. I do not mind how long this takes to accomplish i need this to happen it is my life long goal. |

While it's not easy to make what you're describing, it is technically possible. However, be aware that things like SWG and Second Life both had large, professional development teams that worked on the thing for years to make it work. So don't expect for this work anytime soon. That being said, it's an interesting idea. However, it's pretty hard to get people to join your team, when you don't really stand out from the crowd of people with a bit of programming knowledge and an idea. Keep going from where you are and keep learning C++. Generally when you don't have any funding, the only way to get team members is to be really good at one aspect of development. If you're going the programming route, you really need to get familiar with C++, or some other good compiled language (though C++ is preferable), and learn a 3D Graphics library (OpenGL/DirectX). Once you've done that, try and make a playable version of your world, even if it's missing the vast majority of features and the art is just a whole bunch of boxes. Once you have something playable, then a lot more people will take your seriously and probably offer to lend a hand. So try and keep going until that point, and then post your idea to the world! Until then, though, just keep learning. And of course, feel free to ask questions on the forum about programming/art/whatever, and we'll try and help you. Good luck with your project!

Uhum, ok... you want to make a MMO ... so I am not one of the majority of people who say that its impossible for someone with no previous skills in games BUT what will you do really?
Youre not a programmer nor an artist... have you ever made a game design document? Have you ever made a MMO game design document? Do you know the limitations of engines? What about security system of your mmo? There are a lot of things to think of and work on... I've been doing my MMOG for 2 years now and we are still on early stages, that is with a team of experienced members. Your thinking is not bad, my game is actually inspired on Harvest Moon or Farmville for that matter but your skills are just not yet there to make your own MMO... Unless youre an investor, in that case forget all I said since you will pay people to do a game and all you would need to do is manage funds. This is not to discourage you but its to give you a real vision of it, if youre serious you'll think of it and start learning real hard, nothing is impossible, some things are just harder than others.

I am a programmer, everything i want to do is possible and to be honest isnt to hard, but it will take a very long time. This game will be completely free in the end so im hoping not to spend to much on it.

In any case good luck, but you really are in the wrong place to find experienced members to create a game I believe onrpg is much better to build a community instead of a Dev Team. |

Hey, I've made an MMORPG before so I know how hard it is.
If you are serious about making one, then you are looking at about a 5 year learning curve before you can begin to develop an MMORPG that can be seen through to the end. It is if you are 100% dedicated and don't give up. However, lucky for you If you need any questions answered about any aspect of an MMO then let me know ![]() Silver |

![]() We tried to do a community project at one point, but despite two other people signing up who knew how to code, I was the only person doing anything, so it just kinda died ;( Kinda sucks, but yeah. It's essentially dead.
