monster doesnt even come close to beeing the same as deathnote imo... i dont see how u can compare them. also its funny how you start bashing DN and gotto mention monster everytime in every thread while saying the same things over irony, you got some weird obsession xD

i could bash monster for many reasons aswel but ill skip that part since its a DN thread and that would be childish. ive seen it, thought it was 'ok' but nothing more really, a one-time-watch kind of anime. DN was much more pleasant to look at so that makes it also fun to rewatch it now and then.

The plot doesn't have to be the exactly the same but they do carry some of the same style in suspense. Monster just does it better. And I bring up Monster because it's the grading Curve I use to scale other anime to, especially ones in the same category like Death Note. I could bring up other great anime like Legend of the Galactic Heroes which is on the same level as Monster in my opinion. Also Master Keaton, 20th Century Boys and Pluto are great anime/manga. Kaiji is a good suspense anime too. It was one of the most ball crunching ones I have seen. I would like to see you bash Monster but I doubt it will be anything other than you saying how it was boring or slow. I am doubtful you could of absorbed all the material in Monster with one watch. Death Note was an ok show to watch but it really did drag after the first season. Things became more illogical and nonsensical. Death Note did have a good theme of power corrupts and who should have the right over another's life. Death Note was more of a "sit down and watch without thinking much" show while Monster was a show that required you to think a lot to grasp what was really going on. It involved a lot of real events that were taking place in Germany at the time of the 1980s and early to mid 1990s. A kid could probably sit down and enjoy Death Note but would probably think Monster is boring because it is more subtle with it's message. Death Note is more flashy and mainstream while Monster sticks to the roots of plot first and eye candy later. You really need to invest some time into Monster to understand it's complexity and lengthy plot which might be a turn off for some but the reward is great. I could also bring up shows like Legend of the Galactic Heroes which is kind of a half in half with mainstream and intellectualism. The show could be enjoyable for even kids to watch but most of the ideas displayed in the show would go right past them. Things like political ideology would not be well understood by the younger group. Legend of Galactic Heroes was great because of characterization. They balanced a huge cast of characters with a variety of cultural backgrounds and influences and did not skimp on the lesser characters. And the characters were not stereotypical like the ones today which are mainly described by one overbearing emotion or habit. I have not seen any anime with as great of a character as Yang Wen-Li who probably was the most similar to how a real human is. Last edited by IronyTaken; 11-16-2010 at 08:22 AM. |
