Hey guys
i am thinking about going into Law instead of IT but just thinking and i have some questions.So.. 1.What do you do in law school in terms of course work and stuff?my mom told me it was a lot of reading and i dont mind. 2.What are the different categories of law(criminal, corporate etc)? 3.What is the average salary of a lawyer working for the government these days?I wont open a private practice until later on,so that is why i am asking. Basic stuff for now i guess. Thanks. |

It's a lot of reading and research. Few extra credit opportunities, you are mostly graded on the hella intense Law exams, which are usually essay-based and 3 hours in length. Most of yr homework will involve reading and researching previous court cases & the court action taken. There's a LOT of that, but it's focused reading, not just reading because the professor told you to. Quote:

You might also be involved in student organizations, such as the trial team, negotiations team, moot court, various law journals and various student organizations, depending on your school and what your interests are. Quote:
Depends on where you live and whether you will be working for State or Federal government. It also depends on the job, you could be a Federal prosecutor, a district attorney, a city attorney, etc. It probably ranges anywhere from 50-80k starting, higher for Federal jobs. The market average salary for a big firm lawyer is 160k, but that's a tough job to get right now. Actually, its tough for any lawyer to get a job right now, but if you go to law school next year and graduate in 2014 or 2015 hopefully it should be better by then. |

Uhh ok then don't worry about it, it will be at least 6 years before you need to start thinking about it.
160k a year of course. Nobody makes 1.9 million annually out of school except maybe professional sports players

If you've got four years left, I wouldn't bother thinking about it too much. It might seem exciting now, but you can change a lot in four years, you could end up not being interested in either. Think about it, but not too much.
