So I just ordered a 5.1 set, and I currently got a VIA 1708S soundcard integrated on my motherboard...
now my question is, can I just plug the 5.1 set in and get surround sound... OR, do I have to a buy a 5.1 sound card to get the surround sound, and if so.. which one?

I imagine you're hooking this up to your computer.
If so, you'll need to check to see if you have the Green, Orange and Black outputs on the rear (Usually.) of your PC. If not, then, you'll have to buy a new soundcard. However, even if you do, onboard sound is pretty mediocre, and a dedicated soundcard would improve audio quality. |

Creative Labs SB X-FI Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series if you can shell out about $200
Creative Labs X-FI XtremeGamer 24-BIT is around $100 Creative Labs SB Audigy SE is about 30 bucks making it much more affordable. All good sound cards. |

Yes its good but i will add that the sound cards i listed are by 7.1 surround sound.
The particular card you asked about is a 5.1 but honestly anything would be an improvement to on board sound. Last edited by Lawliet1; 11-01-2010 at 12:33 PM. |
