Unemployed Coss was only caught when he sent residents on his street photos of himself saying he was an internet "troll".

One of the residents passed the photos to police who interviewed him before he eventually admitted to posting abusive messages.

The term "troll" was described in court as someone who creates new identities on Facebook accounts and then posts numerous offensive comments to upset or provoke a reaction from others.

Chairwoman of the bench Pauline Salisbury said: "You preyed on bereaved families who were suffering trauma and anxiety.

"We know you gained pleasure and you aren't sorry for what you did."

The defence raised possible mental health issues but they were dismissed by the bench.

There was a similiar case in aus involving a female troll a few months back

Well there is trolling which is in general asshaterie with no real target then there is trolling which involves a more specified target and that is called harassment and yeah guess what harassment is illegal go figure?

From the sounds of it this guy went out of his way to harass a family that had previously lost a loved one, and wither it be a mailed latter or a few dozen comments on the internet harassment is harassment.

So no this guy was not trolling he was using the term troll to cover up his own pathetic attempt at an existence.

Over there? There are many states here in the US that has harassment laws like that. If I remember correctly, many of the laws that passed in the US started with a case here in Missouri.

A young girl committed suicide cause of harassment that one older lady posted on the younger girl's FB. After that, a law was passed.

Sorry, but idiots who enjoy trolling/harassing can get in trouble with the law and deserve to be locked up. I dont care what anyone says.

I remember telling a police officer that I saw naked ghosts dancing around him and he thought I was drunk.
