Default Rockmelt - Web browser

Basically it's a browser that includes social networking sites support. Looks a lot like chrome too. Personally I don't use things like Facebook and Twitter ect. much but what do you guys think?

Well, it's based around the chrome as codebase and anything it does can be achieved with extensions, so it's utterly pointless and who ever does run the marketing for it does a damn good job shoving it into almost any position.

Now lets see the monkey brained fb userbase adopt that piece of trash, lol.

You got a Iron girder stuck up your *** dont you?

I use RockMelts and its pretty cool.

Tho i love Chrome in general.

It uses about 20 under the hood "extensions" that does not have a extension replacement.

Meh, I'll try it out but I'm pretty certain I'll stick with Chrome.

Apple mentality.

Good marketing and demonstrating the product through the use of a popular brand is going to net people in.

That is why so many advertisements show a macbook or whatever.

I am puzzled about one thing:
Why would anyone want a program that functions as a
- browser
- batch uploader
- instant messenger
- gui frontend for html pages
- Rss reader

I could add on the things that a browser nowadays also does function as:
- torrent downloader
- ftp client
- text editor
- video player
- word processor
- gaming platform
- email client
- organizer
- task scheduler
- project management powerhouse
- mp3 player
- calculator
- grafics manipulator
- pdf viewer

Now anyone could use a real torrent program, or a real word processor, or get some real webspace, or get a real game to play, or a real flicr uploader or a real twitter client, or a real multi protocol IM, or any other alternative.

That is where open source comes into play; One important part of OSS is that one piece of software doesn't go for the windows route of building a shell ontop of the shell ontop of the shell. It takes one task and it does it really really good.

There is Firefox, which is OSS
There is Chromium, which is OSS

Those are browsers and they are both very good at it.
Now add all that pointless bloat into the mix and you get things we all know and love from Microsoft; That the Desktop background is displayed by the browser functionality for example (not that that ever worked more than "kinda").

I have another great example of bloatshit software, that try to be the "all in one" replacement for everything:
Manufacturer build Android flavours;
Imagine it this way:
Instead of just taking one app, like the phone, or the shell (desktop) or the calender, or anything of that sort, they choose to go the way of throwing them all out and making one "integrated platform" that does everything split into some 4-5 different interwoven services, that will make the phone stop working, if you try to mess with any of them.

The result is funny, let's take a quick excursion to the phone world, because I can tell about few striking examples:
- Samsungs software called touchwiz didn't allow you to block any tweets by any person you follow on twitter, in the way the webpage does. Result:
You get one messed up feature that you can't get rid off, that will always be buggy and shit until it gets fixed.
- HTC has had a problem, where they wheren't able to update the twitter functionality on time, when the login method allowed by third party apps was altered.
- How about when the twitter they built doesn't support SSH encryption?

These are all none issues; After all the prominent alternatives had/have issues like
- no copy / paste
- unable to set ringtones
- unable to download files in the browser
- can't play mp3s with the screen turned off
- can't actively "fetch" email (this one is a joke, really)
- can't run task when the screen is off whatsoever

Imagine this sort of crap spanning every aspect of your computer, when the only program you rely on is in the hands of a company, that doesn't even have the know-how to build it's own, competitive browser.
Well, in that case, you get something similar to OSX; The operating system that plain sucks, because all Apple ever did on the recent and not so recent versions is patching shit together and a bloody skin.

Following the idea of open source software, this is an abomination, a grotesque software flagship and the rotten core should make anyone feel sick for putting it on his PC.
Anyone wanting really get his work done, is well adviced to avoid it at all costs.

"Everything is just there" "Everything just works" "The feel of it is great"...

People should remember that work is not about "feeling a sense of accomplishment". It's about getting results easily, quickly and being able to rely on the ability to get there.
