Hey guys. Need a hand picking out some decent headphones. Just today I broke my 2 week old headphones. Was absolutely gutted so going back to get a refund tomorrow. It broke at the jack so one side was no longer working at all and the other was cutting in and out. The thing is I have been very careful because it looked very fragile.
Basically can you recommend some that are durable for everyday use that sound good (do not want to have to compromise sound quality) I don't really want to break the $100 mark. |

I would stay away from skullcandy headphones.
They are all looks and average sound quality which is bad for what you pay. I am using a budget headphone right now which sounds great in all forms of music. It's a jack of all trades but a master of none. Although vocals are exceptional. They are the AKG K81 DJ. The ear pieces can rotate around and they can fold up and come with a carrying pouch. They are great for portable use too. Last edited by IronyTaken; 11-29-2010 at 02:52 PM. |

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I've read about the Grado SR-60i before and by the sounds of things they are a really good pair and the just look really durable. A little on the bigger side but I'd still consider them. I've also had my problems with Skull Candy headphones before and I'd rather not go down that path again. But gawd damn those TI's look amazingly sexy. Bit out of my budget though. The AKG K81 DJ look good too and are around the size I like. They just look a little fragile. Do you happen to know If they are fairly strong?

They can fold up and the ear pieces will rotate so when you set them down they lay flat. I use them a lot and bring them with me when I travel. They can deal with rugged use. I like that they have a slight noise canceling effect and they keep noise from bleeding out. So if you listen to music people won't really hear it unless you have it at full blast. But If your budget is up to 100USD then get these. They are more expensive but better. http://www.amazon.com/AKG-Acoustics-...1062833&sr=1-3 Although maybe you should not because you may need a sound amplifier to get the full sound quality. ![]() ![]()

Thanks. They seem pretty good. had a look at the K - 240's and they have a little high 55ohms of impedance. My little player I use when I'm out of the house would find that a little hard to be able to play loud (I love loud) So I'll think I'll stay with the 32 ohms range. That gives decent quality and a reasonable amount of volume from my music.

The K81 are very good at not leaking sound. Also it keeps sound from coming in. If I listen to music at very high volume I wouldn't even hear someone banging down my door. There is also no crackling at all when listening to music at full blast....if that song is not low quality. The headphones may be a tight fit depending on your head size but you can just stretch them out. Once you break them in they work very well. I got mine on a deal a while back. I think I may be sold on them. One last thing. How is the bass? I generally listen to Dubstep, Drum and bass, Hip-hop and rock so it's kinda important I get that too. Sorry to be so annoying =D
The ones that broke on me were: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-SHL8.../dp/B002KKF8IM |
