Anyone know of any? I really don't have any specific requirements, other than it needs to be a fairly easy read. I'm not much of a reader (outside of the internet and magazines) but my girlfriend loves it so I want to get into it a bit more, but the stuff she reads is a little over my head at times and I find myself yawning more than comprehending what's being read. I'm not a big fan of books that are mainly consisting of humor/comedy and/or the writer trying to be funny.
So I've been trying to think of what genre fits me, and I came to a realization that good books based on true stories is what I should look into. I've read books for classes before and I've genuinely enjoyed a few, the latest one being a story about 2 guys adventuring into the Arctic. I can't remember what it's called, but I think it was based on a true story (or it was just very believable). I don't want biographies or anything. Kind of tough, but any ideas? I was thinking something on the Holocaust maybe. Not because I'm some kind of morbid individual, I just find it fascinating in a terrifying way and so much emotion and storytelling can come from it I'm sure. Perhaps something on real serial killers as well? As terrible as they are, I find their minds fascinating. Again, not a biography though (unless it's impossible), something with a story, based on real life... I'm rambling... thanks anyone who actually read this far lol. I appreciate any help in the right direction!

Alive.
It's about the plane that crashed in the Andes in 1977 and the survivors had to live in a completely desolate area for 70 days. Can you guess what they had to eat? Anyway, it's truly incredible. They made a movie out of it, but I recommend the book. |

the Aubrey/Maturin series is a historical fiction set during the Napoleonic Wars, about a ship's captain and doctor. Apparently the author based all of the naval engagements on events that actually occurred. Though he does admit to moving the times events occurred around to suit his story, occasionally, they are very close to reality.
